Comments on news posted 2003-04-14 17:50:24: America Online's latest battle in the spam wars has sparked criticism from online groups who say its policy of blocking e-mail from dynamically-assigned IP addresses is creating too much collateral damage with legitimate e-mail relay users. ..

| | Legitimate Comcast E-mail Relay Users? Since Comcast's TOS forbids running a mail server, is there such as thing as a Comcast customer that is a legitimate e-mail relay user? | |

For example, if you want to email large attachments, the only way to do that is to use a non-Comcast email relay.
As an aside, I thought that article was very poorly written. It didn't explain the issues.

They obviously don't get it... we use our own mail servers because their mail server sucks. Seriously. Look at anything you try to send through the comcast mail servers, and you'll see that it either never gets there, or takes FOREVER to be received. Oh, forget trying to send a large attachment.. that'll never make it. But, as soon as I use my own mail server, it works just like a charm... maybe because I know how to setup my own mail server so that it's not an open relay and allows only my personal mail to go through? Blocking an IP address won't block spammers.. especially if your email address ends with aol.com - that right there is just asking for spam. Maybe someday Comcast will grow a brain and fix their mail server.. but until then, I'll keep my personal mail server.

and of course, in that article it says that you can email an address on the error message you receive, but like hell if comcast will respond.. I sent 6 emails to that address and they just ignored them.
