Nice...

It's nice to see Verizon raising the level of performance and lowering the cost. I hope that other companies will see this good move, and make it as well.

It sounds good :)

I just got off the phone with billing and they told me within 5 business days my speed will be bumped up to 1.5 down and the new billing of $34.95 will start.

Looks like Verizon is TAKING ADVANTAGE

Of Comcasts STUPID mistake.

Many many people will move to verizon. I know one personally that WAS in the process of moving to comcast, looks like his plans will have changed now.

Not necessarily: many of us don't have a choice. I am living in Comcast land and in an area that has seen thousands of homes built in the last 5 years. Guess what? Verizon never upgraded their lines and DSL isn't available.

It may look that way because you are in that situation, but in many many many places, verizon and comcast are duking it out bigtime. Especially here in the DC area.

You have a newer home are you sure fiber isnt around there?

Sounds great!

I wish Speakeasy would do it. Seems to good to be true for verizon customers. I always feel that when Verizon does something that appears to be good, its because they have something up their sleeve. Well have to wait and see.

 Cool!

This upgrade has been long overdue for Verizon customers. The new $34.95 price point that both SBC and Verizon are using is real nice too. SBC is showing it as a promotional price though.

to get the new speed and price, do you have to agree to a year or year+ commitment?

With the latest moves DSL providers like SBC and Verizon are making, it will make the choice a little easier for those that have a choice between Cable and DSL.

I still feel DSL is a better connection, given that your lines are descent and you are within reasonable distance. I love my SBC/Ameritech DSL connection. Almost no downtimes and speeds remain constant and reliabe, EVEN DURING PEAK HOURS. The ONLY time I even considered Comcast is due to the lower costs and higher downloads. Now that Comcast has lowered their downloads(not sure why they just dont upgrade their networks and blow DSL completely away) and DSL has lowered their prices its 'almost' a no-brainer to go with DSL, especially gamers since DSL typically has lower pings.

move in the right direction?

this appears to be a significant mover towards lower and more competitive pricing - unfortunately, I can't get VOL!

the next step they have to take is to upgrade their equipment so they can reach more customers. until they do this, this is just an exercise that may or may not lower pricing from competitors.

Maybe they are seeing if they can draw customers away from Comcast; if successful, they will upgrade to bring more customers into their service area.
At least it seems to be a step in the right direction.

No, no agreements but you do have to call billing. I heard that it will eventually happen to all if you qualify (12000 or less feet from CO) but to be safe I would call in. Even if you don't qualify for the speed bump, you can at least get the new price.

Are they including static IPs with this?

I have been a customer for about 4 months now, and was never required to sign a contract.

The only thing you have to do if you cancel the service within the first year is mail back the modem. They send you a pre-paid shipping label to do so. Otherwise, the modem is yours to keep.

No static, but if you have a router, it holds your IP. Some areas don't even use PPOE. I just connect via DHCP.

I don't care

As long as I can't get DSL, I'm going to make sure that SBC(Same Bull Crap) loses money on my phone line. Just keep switching back and forth from SBC to a CLEC and get them to bribe me back each time. This guarantees losses for SBC on my line. Want it to stop? Give me DSL.

Good to see

It's good to see a telco rising up to the competition. Let's see DSL rise the bar up as cable service is declining, good to know Verizon is leading the way!!
