AOL rocks?!?!? you are kidding yourself!

people who really use computers and really make use of their ISP knows that AOL is not a real ISP. Their service is soley for n00bs that know nothing about the internet and just want to learn email and web browsing. but AOL is a bad way to learn. Most people, once they learn how to use AOL wont want to learn the REAL way to use the internet.

From a Technical Support Specialist perspective, AOL service is so subpar its not funny. We have employees and users that use the software and they seem to be the most common to come to use with problems. The software wont allow use to use anything we do remotely. The software screws up some of our systems. We hate working with the employess who have AOL BB at home. Its impossible to deal with.

Now, if AOL cleans up their client and implements a REAL ISP structure, i would be happy to recommend it to new ppl in the internet world. But there are very few n00bs left in our digital age and AOL is wearing out its welcome here.

I did learn the internet on AOL and was so happy to go to college where we had LAN access to the internet and NO client to run. I learned real quick how to use the REAL internet and shed that POS client that holds all you AOL users back.

I would NEVER go back to AOL. Ill stick with my regular cable ISP. No more bloatware.

Who Care's

I subscribed to AOL on the 45 day free trial that came with my new PC and AOL has not changed a bit since I was last a customer. I dont see why a person would pay for AOL @ all. I use OOL and when I did a speed test on here using AOL software my results were 4012/680. Now that's just shitty I mean I always get a constant 9402/1012 W/o using AOL software. All that content Streaming this and streaming that who care's. I dont give a shit about parental controls or pop up blocker or call alert. none of that shit warrants paying 54.95 for aol Broadband or 14.95 a month more if you already have highspeed internet. I'm just going to say what a plenty of people here already have said about aol , AOl software is for people that just know how to turn on there pc and that's it, Dont know where to find streaming content ( by the way yahoo! launch content is far better then AOL and it's free) at all on the web. In closing AOL SUX always has Always will and oh yeah dont let me 4 get to cancel me free 45 day account.

Re: Who Care's

I decided to try out Verizon DSL Wednesday on my other line last week and my order was completed by this Wednesday. I noticed that my PC ran a lot smoother without AOL DSL and didn't crash the whole day. I guess that AOL's bloated software really does make a difference. I was originally defending AOL, but now take back my words. I will keep Verizon DSL and cancel AOL DSL. Verizon lowered my price on their business DSL line to $39.10 when I threatened to cancel. So any of you business users out there should try doing the same thing if you're paying more.

do it for da money

hey, i know you have no reason to believe me when i say this, because a lot of ppl impersonate AOL employees... but i think you aol-haters need to know that you're not alone.

i do tech support for aol canada, and i'm only in it for da money. paycheck to paycheck i tell mbrs how great the service is but i myself can't stand it. with a regular DUN connection with any decent ISP, i can connect, download something and go play top-end games while i'm waiting for it to finish.

hehe, anyways,
when i had 8.0 on my 98se (1.3ghz, 640mb ram), the program itself ate up 13% sys resources whenever i was connected. my gamez wouldn't run properly. i had msconfig setup so that i wasn't running more than 2 TSR's after bootup. that's sad. a DUN connection wouldn't even touch me. now i have XP so it's not as bad (yay for NTFS!).

obviously i had downgraded to a lower version but now that i'm on XP i can only go down to 7.0.

i'm ranting, a lot of other ppl have better computers than i and don't have this problem. but for ppl like me who are underpaid and can only afford the free account i get from work, it's all i got.

by the way, i'm typing this in between calls so my train of thought probably at best, seems a little mental.

i agree with a lot of the accusations thrown at AOL, exempting only crazy and moderately-crazy ones. i hate the fact that dialup users need to see the bloatware that is aol. BB mbrs can of course go PPOE so that's fine. i hate marketing-based companies who show big, flashy, super-we're-awesome-ads that falsely describe a crap-ass product.

on the good side, aol is great for a parent who wants to do the right thing and block porn from their kids. I'm a bible-thumpin', hardcore christian and i firmly stand behind AOL's use of parental controls. It's also great for jimbob who just bought a $2000 deck of cards, because you can be completely non-technical and still use AOL.

it's all about choice. if you want crazy, bloated content that makes internet useable for you, or if you just like the service then yeah, aol's great. but for everybody else, go with an ISP that doesn't boil down to a half-baked marketing plan.

next time a mbr asks me why they should go with aol, i may not have an answer for them.

thanks for listening.
