monopoly

Such is the life of a monopolistic business. Make that ungodly $ no matter the cost to anyone concerned.

Gov't should step in

The cross-business monopoly had by clear channel is sickening and should be stopped.

When people *have no choice* to purchase tickets, except from ticketmaster, and in doing so *have no choice* except to "opt-in" to their marketing crap... then I think there is a clear mandate for the government to step in and regulate. The government is there for a number of reasons - one of them is to protect individuals from larger, more powerful forces (i.e. that is why we HAVE anti-monopoly laws... DUR! So that whole anti-government whinning section can just stew in their sour grapes or go and vote to change the system.)

Breaking the links between venues for shows and air-time on radio stations must be stopped.

Until then, I would suggest using a temporary or timed email account, like »www.spamhole.com/ when dealing with spam-traps like ticketma$ter

I agree 100%. The last time I checked, monopoly power was supposed to be discouraged in a free market system.

Of course, you'll probably get some unregistered idiot who goes on a diatribe about "Big Brother" and "Government involvement!"

Business Loses The Privilege to My Information

This further underscores *my* new privacy policy when dealing with businesses.

Due to the abuses of my personal information by businesses with their continued spamming and telemarketing, my policy is now they no longer have access to this information. My checks have the number of the data/fax line for the house, email address is a Hotmail address and my voice line doesn't even ring unless your phone number is pre-programmed into the phone.

If they don't like my policy, I'm sure I can find someone else that'll accept my money.

Seriously, it's time for a consumer revolt. Consumers hold the purse strings, if these people make you angry, quit buying their stuff. They'll either change or go out of business.

The only way

The only was to deal with this situation is DON"T BUY TICKETS
It's their position that you cant do without what they have.
same attitude as a crack dealer.
If you're unable to live without ticket master tickets- you're their b*tch.
Let those tickets rot on the shelves for a while and they'll swing into line.
Because you have something THEY can't do without- your cash

But you just don't get it, these people want their cake and eat it too, they want to buy tickets the way they want to buy tickets and they want everyone to follow their rules while thumbing their noses at everyone else's rules. Its like watching 2 year olds throw temper tantrums around here. unbelievable.

Fanwhores are too willing to give in....

Don't get me wrong; I'd love to go to more concerts (aren't any around here, but there used to be in the late 80's and early 90's) and despite the fact that I would've liked to have seen KISS in their orignal makeup (reunion tour) and the Eagles when they're touring it's hard (for me anyway) to justify the high ticket prices and those absurd "fees" that TM tacks on. And this is coming from a big believer in buying items on-line.

Voting with one's pocketbook usually sends a powerfull message.
