Comments on news posted 2003-09-16 14:00:38: Verisign isn't particularly popular this week among network administrators after the company changed the DNS system yesterday to take advantage of typing mis-cues. The company yesterday decided to add wildcard DNS records to managed .com and . ..

Unethical

I think it's unethical. Hopefully the whole thing will backfire and produce negative results for Verisign and so much pressure will be brought upon them that they will drop the changes.

May they burn in hell

I hope everyone that has done business with them will never do it again, and nobody else will. This is just abuse!

I like this quote on their DNS FAQ

I like this quote on their DNS FAQ "VeriSign is directly connected to the White House, ISPs, and major Internet corporations in order to alert them to any suspicious Internet activity." yes I am sure there is a "DNS Red Phone" in the oval office!

Something tells me my laptop is about as connected to the white house as they are!

LOL! Well technically, if "W" has a PC, he's connected to THEM, in a roundabout way.

But I digress...

Time to boycott Verisign

We no longer have any current or future dealings with network solutions and versign nor do we have an intentions on dealing with them ever.

We have added thier 3 ASN's to our RBL list so any of thier junk will be rejected with a terse message saying why they are being ignored. If others do this on a large scale they will have a real problem.

E-Mail from verisign's entire network can be blocked by thier AS (Autonomous System Number) assignment.

The following RBL entries will do the trick.

as7342.rbl.cluecentral.net
as26134.rbl.cluecentral.net
as26415.rbl.cluecentral.net

And you assume that GoDaddy wouldn't perpetrate the same abuse if they were given custody of .Com and .Net.

Bill Gates will SUE them

For those of you familiar with internet explorer, normally it gives you a page VERY similar to the one Verisign is displaying... in fact, i've gotten the verisign thing several times this week and NEVER noticed it until I read this article.... I thought microsoft had just updated the one built into IE.. Silly me.

Anyway, Bill Gates will most likely be pissed, as this now takes away from the MSN search that would come up when you got the address wrong...

VISIT VERISLY.COM TO SIGN THE PETITION, AND RUN A BET HOW LONG BEFORE THE WIPO EMAILS A REQUEST TO TURN OVER VERISLY.COM :O)

Given the Verisign mass-typosquatting via Sitefinder, I thought it appropriate that we consider Verisign's past actions against others. See their WIPO cases:

»arbiter.wipo.int/domains/decisio···303.html ("venesign.com")
»arbiter.wipo.int/domains/decisio···446.html ("veresign.com" and "verasign.com")

Others:

»arbiter.wipo.int/domains/decisio···216.html
»arbiter.wipo.int/domains/decisio···139.html
»arbiter.wipo.int/domains/decisio···138.html

(found using the tool at »www.icann.org/udrp/ )

It was only a quick search, so there might be others. The first 2 are enough, though, to prove the point.
