Existing customers aren't having problems, it's just new customers.
I do find it strange that they've having these types of problems.

life was better for them when they were a monopoly. now they can't compete because like most corporations they are more concerned with appeasing share holders and raising their quarterly figures than delivering a better product to customers. they rush and deliver crap. I have no sympathy and they can keep their free phones. the next year should be very interesting now that Time Warner and other cable companies have effectively declared war on the new monopolies who screw us regularly (Verizon and all the other Baby Bells with their no competition so you pay what we say policies) by beginning to offer local and long distance phone service courtesy of VoIP. Already they are squirming, demanding VoIP be regulated. Hopefully we'll get a little time to enjoy the reduced rates before our piece of sh*t elected officials fall to the money of big business and allow them to regulate it and screw us like they let the local phone monopolies do to us now. |

Not true....existing customers are/can have problems. My friend did a switch from ATT TDMA to GSM and they couldn't switch him over for about 4-5 days. -- Visit the un-official OOL web site. »www.OptOnline.tk |

Well, I meant to say existing GSM customers.
I've been a GSM customer since June 2002, and have never had any problems.

It's unfortunate that you're so cynical. However, it's also quite disappointing that you're probably correct. |

I had them for three years and thry were horrible. the worst of the worst. Switched to Sprint and could not be happier |

Once it was determined that although LNP would be somewhat of a technical challenge, but it would be possible, all carriers should have been working towards it. But because it presented some operational challenges, they refused to provide it. (Actually, I don't have experience in phone routing, but if it's anything like IPv4 routing, I can imagine the problems. There's nothing quite like taking a /16 network, then having to add 1000 or more /32 exceptions to that routing rule.) So now the general public gets wind of this, and starts demanding that the government do something about it. And apparently despite the telecom lobbies, we now have this law. And of course, like most laws, it has an effective date. It's no surprise to me that this "choke point" of this effective date caused a mountain of problems as everybody rushes to take advantage of this new law.

I have a GSM/TDMA combo phone with ATT in Dallas... I've noticed that it's been sitting on TDMA for me most of the past week or two. Good thing I don't have a GSM-only phone. |

I have nothing good to say about AT&T wireless. They dont guarentee free in network calls, the "Customer DO NOT Care" department is trained not to trust their customer. They lie and make up stories against you. I truely had a horrible experience with AT & T Wireless. I will never recommend any AT&T product in the future. Most recently, I cancelled my wireless program on 10-27-03 and still getting monthly bills. The "Customer DO NOT Care" department told me "we cannt adjust your billing due to our AT & T Cancelation policy". (only signed up for 12 months, cancellation was month 14) Haha, not my problem! My bad experience never ends, and I dont use their cell phone!
Thanks for listening..........feel much better.......Cingular Wireless has been great for me! |

During Thanksgiving there were complaints among existing GSM folks that AT&T support couldn't access accounts.....I think much of that has been cleared up in the past week or so, though LNP and new subscribers are still an issue.... |

| reply to aggiejy I have seen the same issue in Indianapolis. Problem is that I am on a GSM only plan.
As well, I have been trying to port my ATT number over to Sprint for more than 10 days. AT&T's problems have been preventing this port (this was confirmed during a phone call with the FCC). |

I have been an AT&T wireless customer for over 5 years, last year they enticed me to switch to GSM. Of course, I needed a new phone, so they gave me one free and put me on a one year contract. First time in a long time that I had to be put on a contract with AT&T wireless. From the begining I have had problems with their GSM service. A few things that come to mind:
1) Closing my TDMA/Digital account and opening a new GSM account...which resulted in getting DOUBLE billing for over 4 months.
2) I called them on their GSM guarantee, and asked to be put back to my old account - ATTWS would not do it unless I paid them $175 for the GSM phone that I received "FREE". And yes, I did it within 15 days of switching to GSM.
3) Frequest dropped calls...and they are supposed to credit you for dropped calls...but good luck in trying to convince them that you didn't hang up and tried calling someone back!
4) Poor reception. I could have a FULL set of bar on my nokia GSM phone, and yet I can't make a call, I can't receive a call...and HOURS later I would get a voicemail.
5) If you've tried calling them in the past 2 months, you'll wait in a long queue (over 45 minutes, two hours is more likely)...and find that the CSR you've spoken to can't access your account "because of a system upgrade".
I could go on and on...but I've had enough with poor customer service and really bad GSM system. I just picked up my T-Mobile phones yesterday, and am on hold (for the past 40 minutes) to cancel my AT&T account. I hope people don't fall for the free phones, because you'll end up with a phone and no service! |

i have already moved one of my phones to my tmobile family plan... tmobile is 10000000x better than AT&t
i had an AT&t phone for many years and last year the phone finally gave up and died... so i went in to AT&t seeking a replacement... since i had the warranty that they suck out of you every month i figured this would be quick...
man was i wrong, the first thing they tell me is that there is a $100 repair fee... um, so wtf was the warantee on my bill for?
"thats for accedental damage"... oh ok, so manufacturer damage is my problem? (the vibrate wouldent work anymore)
he then went on to tell me that i could get a free phone if i extended my contract for a year...
fine, i agreed to extend the contract (big mistake)
then he offered me some other waranree... that covers "everything, even theft!" (now, working at circuit city, i should have seen this huge reading on my bs-radar, but i just wanted to get out of there)
so murphy, hating me as he does, my phone gets stolen about 7 months later... i go to AT&t... "well you are under contract, so you can either buy a crappy nokia phone for $150 or pay the $250 cancellation fee" ... wtf? i dont get a replacement phone "nope the warantee dosent cover loss..."... but it wasnt lost it was stolen, "sorry"
so whatever, im really pissed... and then he tells me since my rate is a government rate (my father works for the county) that i can call the government/city AT&t support and probably get a phone for free...
fine, so i go home and call... they "made me a deal" and offered me the same nokia phone from the store... for $250... wtf!? why is the government rate $100 higher than the store?
anyway it goes on and on and the horror continues...
i ended up buying an AT&t phone off my friend and moving my number to it... im counting down the days until i can move it to T-Mobile also... my dads contract expiered Dec 9, the 10th we were @ tmobile moving it to a new phone
and since now t-mobile includes nights for free on their family plans instead of $5/mo, that made my bill $10 cheaper (had 2 phones w/nights already)
so my dads phone is basically free...
and tmobile $20 unlimited data > *
on my bill it showed that i downloaded last month about 56Mb
if i was on AT&t's biggest data plan of 8Mb for $20 a month...
my bill for data alone this month would be.. $314.92
hahaha, im so glad im gone -- BellSouth sucks |
