Good Deal!

At $29.95... the 768-1.5 mbit/128k DSL package from SBC is hard to beat.

Most people wouldn't need more.

I really don't care about DSL because..

It seems that I'm just too far away from the CO, 14000 feet, to get anything above 768/128. So as long as Verizon keeps doing nothing about distance related connectivity I can care less if they increase packages or decrease their prices since I don't want 768/128.

Good

I am extremely happy to see this kind of news. We need as much competition as we can get out there to help knock down comcast's pseudo-monopoly. We can hope that DSL makes enough inroads to hurt the cable's piece of the pie and they'll be forced to lower their prices to compete.

Cable is my choice

Had I been able to keep my bundled cableTV/Internet package and pricing when I moved last summer, I would have stayed with TW Road Runner. It was a very solid connection. Consistently over 2MB/512Kb. The SBCYahoo package I have is ok, for the price. I am waiting for TW to openly release their voice/TV/BB in our area.

I was on month to month DLS 1.5/256 for $60

Saw comcast upgraded their speed to 3.0/256 for $45

So I cancelled DSL and when they asked I told them why. They had no argument...

SAME ol Chit!

Nothing s gonna come out of this except, the arguments of " My Cable is better than your DSL" BLA BLA BLA...........
Been going on since I first came to this site.
We all know what the obvious is, so why even continue to ask the loaded DSL or Cable ?,?

Why not compare the DSL industry VS Verizon and their high price for LOW speed offerings, there's a valid argument.

As it stands right now, CABLE is the front runner. Look at the speeds »/archive
You don't see any MAINSTREAM DSL provider in the top 5, and you will never see it this year or 5 years from now.

I'm all for DSL, but I'm a CABLE guy now, and looking at my speed and the price I'm paying, I say, that NOT ONE US DSL or Cable Provider can match OOL ANYTIME soon.

SO, Instead of this, you should be lobbying your CABLE providers to match the OOL speed for the price you are paying.

better value?

according to BBR, i'm 17.7k ft from the CO, but i get a good strong steady 1.5/896 DSL... for only $31/mo :P

I also have Comcast HSI at 1.5/256 (haven't seen the 3mb upgrade yet) for $45/mo. Now you tell me, which is the better deal? I will decide that for myself in the next few weeks and dump one of them.

Re: Good Deal!

With the caps cable has, the no server restrictions of DSL, plus what you just mentioned, I say DSL could start to take over. I guess most home users don't care about hosting servers, but as people use more bandwidth intensive apps the caps will become very annoying for all.

 DSL vs Cable

I'm sticking with DSL for as long as possible. I don't have to deal with caps »www.harktheherald.com/modules.ph···id=13104, I can set up a network if I wanted to, and I don't have to worry about cable increases.

They took over in my house

After the 3rd price increase in a year, Comcast is gone replaced with the 50% cheaper, and uncapped VoL.

That's all fine and good, move out side of OOL's reach and see if you still have the same opinion. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Cable > DSL

well, from personal experience, I'm enjoying cable more than DSL. My first DSL ISP, provided 1500/128 (i got 1200/130) for $69/month.....and they limited downloads to 4 gigabytes/month, and stated that total weekly upload can NEVER be more than the downloads. Obviously, I had to cut them off.

My next option was a DSL provider who offered 768/128 w/ no download/upload limits for $65/month. All was going good for about a month.....then my download was cut in HALF! I was constantly getting 320/128 speed. I called the people, and they told me that was their way of controlling bandwidth. Bye, bye DSL.

Currently, I'm using mediacom cable internet....and I couldn't be happier. $55/month(internet alone) for a 3000/256 line I had a few speed problems at the start, but everything seems to be resolved now. Even at peak times, I'm getting better speed than my old DSL was getting at 2 am.

Re: Good Deal!

With me personally this is the sticking point that makes me stay with DSL. Even though my speeds aren't that great (512/128) I don't really need more and being able to run my servers is very sweet. While my cable I had previously offered better speeds my DSL is more consistent and stable.

Re: SAME ol Chit!

When adsl 2.0 hits we will see. SBC is betting the farm on dsl. Now that they give 6.0 /608 for $45 the heat will be on. Not to mention what is ool policy on running servers and bandwidth ussage?
