It's pretty simple to shut off the Internet

Basically, to shut off the Internet, you kill the routers at the major peering nodes. This would ripple through to everyone else. Hope Cisco is fixing this problem in the IOS as we speak.

Well known spammer calls ISP. "I can't connect with my servers anymore."

ISP rep says "I'm sorry sir your internet is broke. There is no time reported for a fix. Have a nice day."
