Ask a different provider and you'll find out. -- A good idea expressed in a poor manner is a bad idea. |

Considering my last Bellsouth bill was $88 bucks, this sounds like a killer deal to me. |

| Try Broadvoice. For $10/mo. you can get unlimited in state calling and for $20/mo you get unlimited calling in the US. Not to mention you get pretty much every calling feature available. I signed up to be on the notification list when TW started advertising of the upcoming Digital Phone then I investigated and found many other cheap alternatives. I am a Broadvoice user now for over a month and love it. Can't beat the price or the call features. TW will only offer callwaiting, callerid, and callwaiting id. I would venture to say I have almost 15 call features with Broadvoice all for $10/mo. (I actually pay like $13 because I have a virtual number local to another city). |

| Have it. Love it.
I have it here on the Island of Long (w/Cable Vision) and I love it. $35 a month compared to $90 a month! And now that I'm moving up to an area that has Time Warner, I am psyched! $55 a month would be a bargin compared to what Verizon was charging me. |

I pay $47/mo in service/fees/taxes to Bellsouth every month for a land line. I have no caller id, no long distance, no call waiting, nothing. I feel like royalty for having touch tone dialing for free now (used to charge a buck). I do have the expanded calling area to call 50+ miles from my home.
I'm anxiously waiting for TW to get service to my neck of the city so I can drop Bellsouth. For $39 and whatever fees, I get all the goodies (caller id, etc) and unlimited calling in the US and Canada.
Power is not a problem. With three APC Smart-UPS 1500's and a generator, I'll be fine. Our last major power outage (ice storm in 2002) took out our phones after 2 days. |

perhaps its in the free long distance or free local calls or some other detail not mentioned in this article? people aren't stupid, nor is timewarner. if its not a good deal, people won't bite. with new technology, especially, there must be some real big bonus to get someone to move over to it. |

What is TWC's customer relations email address? I'm going to email them and get their response to Packet 8, Vonage, etc who offer the exact same product for 1/2 the price. Sure, for some people, $40/mo is a big savings over their current land lines but here in Ohio, SBC charges around $38 for a land line with caller id, call waiting, etc. (No long distance included and that $38 is with all the BS taxes factored in). Why on earth would I pay TWC $40/mo when I can pay Packet 8 $20/mo for the same exact offer?! TWC needs to structure their prices differently for certain parts of the country when they roll out VoIP. |

OK, if $40/month is considered a good deal then I'm clearly missing something. Does the service included long distance of some sort for that price, like unlimited calling within the US, or is the $40 just for unlimited local calling?? |

| TW VoIP seems like a rip off to me
SO TW is pushing hard to get into the VoIP business. I live in Portland, ME which has been one of the pilots for this.
Granted, compared to VZ which was charging me an arm and a leg it is a bargain...however, the following should be said:
The service is actually $50 a month. You get a $5 discount if you use TW cable and 10 if you use digital cable or internet from them.
They also do not tell you until you call them that you cannot fax on their service and you cannot have a second line.
Oh yeah...btw...it's another $4 a month for VM and hardly a third of the features available with any of the other VoIP providers.
Digital Phone: $45 Add internet: $45 Lowest digital tier: $58 Add taxes&fees: $18 Total: $166
My version...
DSL through GWI.net: $33 (including taxes) Voicepulse 2 lines: $31 (including taxes) Total: $64
Not paying for cable or satellite because it's all junk and because I get my news from NPR and BBC.com:
Priceless... |

| Who said it isn't? They can charge whatever they want in a monopolized market. In areas where peopple have choices for High speed internet and voip, TW is not going to survive the competition..
Those who feel they have a good deal either because they have little info about voip, or they really lack alternatives in their area. So why not enjoy ripping off your customers while the fun still lasts? Go, TW!! |

I am not going to take a chance with a Vonage, or Packet8.
I don't care that you have had "no problems for a year".
I like knowing that my service will be professionally installed, I'll still be able to use every phone jack in my house with an ANALOG PHONE and if I do have a problem, I can actually have a technician come out to my house and fix it for free. -- TripOnThis.net Administrator "Security by obscurity is no security at all. That is flat out wrong.

It's not much savings if I'm paying close to $50/month now for my phone bill. So gay, u even have to subscribe to digital TB. I'd much rather go with vonage, which is now $25 or $30/month with more features. |

I pay $75 a month to BellSouth for DSL and local and all ld with the features and everything else. I also get $10 a month off my DirecTv bill with there new plan. So, as I said, where are the BIG savings? I could care less if it is VoIp or other dialtone as long as I get my savings. I tried COX and they couldn't beat the BellSouth deal I have!!! |
