They have already screwed up their database, whether deliberate or not, for their upgrades. Do really think they are going to make sure they are correct so you can have pots service with another company??? |

I just cancelled Verizon yesterday and cited forced bundling. The customer service rep on the phone admitted that quite a few people are pleased with the service and price of DSL but aren't happy with having to pay an additional $20 for an unlisted voice line. It simply makes them uncompetitive. With Verizon's increase to 1500/384 for the $30-$35 residential package, it certainly opens the door for them to offer their own VoIP services packaged with DSL. That would certainly be something I would consider if their VoIP was priced on par with competitors like VoicePulse, Broadvoice and Vonage. -- 10.98@121 |

Personally I think its a great idea and I hope Verizon follows through. I first got DSL with VZ about 3 years ago then switched to Comcast HSI after two years because I wanted to not have a land line becaues I use my mobile for all my calls.
Then this year when I moved I switched back to VZ DSL because it was so much cheaper than Comcast and although Comcast was fast I truly don't need a super fast connection to read articles, send email and watch vidoes.
So I love my VZ DSL but would love it more without the landline attached. |

Considering the have the most expensive 1.5x256 ADSL out there I would think they'd be the biggest candidate that consumers would look for effort in change.
Its crazy that one can get cable-modem service without cable television, but people in the Southeast cannot get ILEC ADSL without POTS. |

I so hope this comes true. I would love to get VoIP once it is available from VZ but I won't not if I had to have a landline as well. |

I've heard this from my reseller as well, so it is more than just a rumor. My friends at Qwest told me the Grand Pooka of Qwest and his Brown Noses of the round table decided it was better to have just a DSL customer then no customer at all. Seems like a no brainer but as I have said here before the Bell Telephone executives are now all retired they couldn't get their minds away from telephones forever. I remember a sale US West had years ago. they where selling off old computers all were IBM PC's they where all from US West upper level management, all most all of them where unused. -- »www.gobpl.com |

I wouldn't just yet get all excited about this. Verizon in their clueless wisdom will just do what Comcast does now if you just buy internet services. That being, Verizon will charge more for the DSL service if bought unbundled from other services. |

Don't get too excited yet, this is all speculation. Verizon always likes to talk big but when it comes to delivering on the goods they are always lacking. Look at the recent "upgrade" they are offering. My conspiracy-minded side says that they "moved" all their customers further away from the CO just so they would not need to do any actual upgrades, but I'm chalking that up to a massive database error instead.
I'm just wondering how many DSL customers are going to be knocked offline when they call to cancel their phone service. Nothing Verizon does ever runs smoothly, I can't imagine they will make it easy for you to cancel your phone line. -- Keep America Strong! Bush/Cheney 2004 |

1 edit | That means more money for vonage.
I would drop comcrap in a HEARTBEAT if that were the case. Think about it, phone service from vonage, tv from Direct tv, and DSL from verion, you cant beat the savings.
26$ for vonage +39$ for dish + 29/39$ from verizon 100 bucks a month for everyhting OR
60$ for comcrap digital, 39.99 for comcrap internet, 59.99 for verizon big package 150 dollars a month. 30% savings. Verizon would experience a drop in phoen customers but a BIG increase in internet customers. I dont see why not, they can regain control from comcrap. -- I tie a rope around my penis and jump from a tree, don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!!!! |

I doubt it. Considering most of Verizon's customers can't even get DSL to begin with, and considering that Verizon isn't planning on changing that situation, the only possible gains that can come would be from those select areas in Verizon territory that can get DSL. -- Keep America Strong! Yeah I forgot about that whole loop length thread. Well thats on Verizon, its no ones fault but their own. However once they are able to get DSL over fiber, alot of new areas will open up. -- I tie a rope around my penis and jump from a tree, don't you wanna grow up to be just like me!!!! |

LOL, don't hold your breath. My mom has been waiting 6 years now to get DSL to her house. She finally gave up and went with Comcast when they wired the area up 2 years ago. I'm hoping she does what I did and "cuts the cord" to Verizon altogether. -- Keep America Strong! Bush/Cheney 2004 |

| Unfortunately, a lot of the loop length database information is INCORRECT. You have to CALL and then ARGUE about the loop length. You may (or probably) will get an override unless if its definitely something serious (fiber, no DSLAM in RT, etc.) You just gotta try... and gotta try again... and again.... and again. Good luck!
(PS: I had DSL... the database shows--and still shows--me at 24k and after 8 calls, I finally got the upgrade scheduled for this Friday... hopefully it'll go through.) |
