Hope I get a big raise this year.

The way Time Warner continues to infiltrate their services into my home...I'm going to need one.

My Comcast bill (cable+broadband) is already $110. I wonder if they offer a lease option to buy?

Over here it is $39.99 but $19.99 for the first 3 months. There are some advantages doing VoIP over cable because the VoIP will be integrated to DOCSIS cable so there will be reserved bandwidth for voice calls (a DOCSIS 1.1 and later feature). When you are using Vonage or other independent service provider DOCSIS 1.1 bandwidth reservation is not used so when your cable or internet is congested your Vonage calls sound terrible.

I did not know that. Always assumed that VoIP shared bandwidth with everything else. That would make sense paying more for reserved bandwidth. I want the pizza guy to get my order right while ordering pizza. Wrong toppings cause he did not hear me due to packet loss and crappy sound.

If my landline had a purpose

I do not answer my phone the voice mail does. If there is no message I won't return the call. If the caller ID shows no number I won't check the messages. If my caller ID shows someone I'd rather not speak too ahh who and I kidding if my dsl needed no phone line if would be gone and I would let the wife get a real cell phone. Now if only I could get TV cheap since time warner charges me $90.00 for basic cable and roadrunner and I only use the roadrunner cause tv pretty much sucks. WOW it just hit me I spend $160.00 a month for both how dumb can I be.

TW makes own traffic priority

If TW wanted to though, they could give their own VoIP traffic priority over other VoIP providers, say like Vonage. However, paying $50 for VoIP is robbery when you can get a POTS line for less.

Wireless?

This is wireless as in cell phones right? Doesn't sound at all interesting to me.

Re: TW makes own traffic priority

Time Warner is doing this. They're VoIP network is NOT VoIP. If you read their site www.timewarnercable.com its DIGITAL PHONE! They're network uses ia different channel to send and receive voice. It does not use bandwidth from the RoadRunner Network. They stated that before.

Re: Wireless?

No, it's VoIP as in Voice over Internet Protocol: fancy-fied telephone service over your internet connection that can tie into regular telephone services throughout (well, nearly) the world.
