Can Merijn opensource his works and let others take over?
| | | IE needs to be un-integrated I won't act like I know everything, but there are many many misinformed people posting here. If you think Firefox (or any Mozilla browser) would be just as "hijacked" as IE currently is just by being the most popular, I suggest you go and do your research.
Until Microsoft UN-integrates their browser from their Operating System, they will never be able to attain the level of security that Firefox has.

| | | The Difference Between Microsoft and Open Source The truth is everyone on XP logs in with full adminstrative rights over their machine to make it easier for the people trying to use it.
Sacrifice security for ease of use.
Stupid and irresponsible.
When people wake up and realize that Security takes first place above features and ease of use, only then will the Microsoft world be as safe a computing platform as linux. I run debian which is a bitch to setup. I havent even hardened it and still it gets no spyware no popups no malware. Nothing. Thats becaue I dont run under the adminstrative account.
If necessary Linux can be hardened so that it is as close to impenatrable as possible with todays technology. (No nothing is perfect but very close!)
1. You have two choices go with Microsoft who cares nothing about security but loves ease of use and simplicity
0r
2. Go with open source which by the way can be setup to run windows Applications that you commonly use such as Microsoft Office 2000/XP/97 and outlook in such a fashion that it wont be susseptable to unremovable spyware or maleware.
If you want your machine setup this way, then email me at
hikenboot{Remove the brackets and contents}@secretwall.com,
(The brackets and contents are used to make it harder automated flooding of the email account)
I would be glad to do it for you for a fee. Even those of us who like open source need some money! Remember dispite everyones perceptions the open source community is not a buch of communists! Yes we also believe in money and in capitalism!
3. If you want to set it up yourself. Go ahead, use wine winex crossover office running on linux. (it is difficult to harden the installation and too much detail to tell here, but can be done.
4. I will also note that by the end of 2005 95% of all windows applications will run on Linux! Right now there is about 100 apps that run perfectly. The emulated API's are under serious development and by 2005 (end) their will be no need for windows.
5. Are you waiting for such windows/OSX features such as desktop searches that are instantaneous on your hard drive. That will drive google search queries and be integrated with a large number of applications. Well then look for Beagle, and another one, cant remember what its called (sorry) that will be fully developed long before Windows longhorn comes out. Also take a look at the rieser file system and the enhansements it has. Microsoft and their inovation is a complete joke! You can download for FREE applications that do what every you could think of for what would cost you 100,0000 USD if you went with Windows.
Here is some info
»www.gnome.org/projects/beagle/ »www.nat.org/dashboard/ »www.codeweavers.com/ »linuxreviews.org/dictionary/WINE/
Like Microsoft heres there response to WINE! »linuxreviews.org/dictionary/WINE···_to_WINE Can you say antitrust!
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransGamin···nologies
6. If you are afraid of linux, then buy an apple. Their security is getting better with every version of OSX. Its a great platform based on BSD!
Good luck to everyone, GOD help the loosers who stick with windows!

2 edits | CWS and new variants I have a client that was victimized by one of the variants in CWS that perhaps was part of the reaseon Mr. Bellekom abandoned his efforts. All avaiable 'cws shredders' have failed to even detect the cws on their server, even though the antispyware (MSAS) continuosly detects cws's efforts to install itself and allows you to block it.
With this in mind, I did some research on cws and a number of reports indicated that the only way to really uninstall cws was thru a program made available at cws's website. I browsed over there (www.intermute.com) and the alleged removal program was not available but there was another piece of software called 'spyware subtract' that claimed to have cws shredder incororated within. NOT TRUE!!!! This 'spyware subtract' was in itself a piece of spyware that as soon as it was installed began popping up windows and adding icons to the desktop. YIKES!! My client was watching this process and he almost sh*t a brick!
We managed to remove the spyware subtract but are still stuck with cws's continuous effort to install itself. Anyone have any NEW ideas here? -- DW4000CE DW4.2.1.10 G4R1230-V RSL80-83, W2KPro SP4 host ICS to W2KPro & XP clients via LnkSys WX Rtr & WAP, cabled & WX NICs & USB adapt, Mozilla.
