RIAA and MPAA form the ICAA...Ilegal Company Asociation of America!!! As long as the MPAA follows due process and doesnt make a single attempt at using the DMCA, all the more power to them. They are just doing their job. But the moment they start using the DMCA then the shits gona hit the fan. |

So far the MPAA has kept calm and not madly filed lawsuits like the RIAA has.
Hollywood in some respects is just as bad as the RIAA. They fail to see the value of "fair use" as the Record Industry doesn't.
Wasn't the MPAA who was suing 321 studios for their DVDXCopy?
I would hate to have to boycott the MPAA as well as the RIAA, but it lawsuits start flying and 'fair use' continually gets swept under the rug, I may have no choice
There's nothing worse than an industry that sues its own customers. |

Wow way to hammer the little guy. I mean with crimes like murder, rape, Bush's bullshit campaign on terrorism.. Sorry bush but you SUCK!! ( almost a trillion spent on "deposing Saddam, and wow 1000 dead americans.. Guess he'd never know the cost of life since he skipped out of duy".. Ok back on my rant... Burglaries, and so on.. The MPAA and RIAA take the forefront of crime. What a wonderful country when the republican party bows down to the corporate giants and fucks the rest of america out of privacy laws by giving them a blank check to do as necessary... Read about where they want to tap emails and internet so the feds can easily track terrorism.. Hum.. yea i wonder whom else they'll track... Invasion of Privacy 1... Corporate Conglomerates 2... The american people, pull down your pants, whip it out, and piss on the constitution that we've known for 200 years as its dead folks.... Thanks Bush... Next time the only Bush i want in Office better have tits. |

| reply to jc100 Exactly what did the story have to do with Republicans? I'll admit that I'm a Democrat and want to see Bush out of office, but how does "MPAA Gets a New Chief... lawsuit possibility is open" = "Bush's fault"? This is a problem with the DCMA which was passed in 1998 (Clinton's tenure) by both Republicans and Democrats. The blame for the DCMA (and some organizations' abuses of it) doesn't fall on one particular political party. -- -Jason Levine http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/ http://www.PCQandA.com/ http://www.urateit.com/ |

| reply to jc100 Because simply put, the whole campaign over the lawsuits started under Bush and the conservative Supreme Court writing a blank check to these companies... Thats how..And I tossed in a few side notes, because these companies say Americans cost them billions... But wow, so take all this money we spend fucking up the world and do something worthwhile with it... I mean if we are pissing away trillions of the taxpayers money, then why when the people piss on others does the consequence differ... Strange how when its a corporation, Bush rushes to their aid, but when the American economy SUCKS.. he still fucks you out of taxes and blows them like money grew on trees... See the link? |

This is the guy who compared the VCR to the Boston Strangler and predicted the death of the industry if it was allowed to go forward.
said by »cryptome.org/hrcw-hear.htm:
I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone.
The VCR avalanche, I told you about that. Now, what about the VCR owners. Now, from here on out, Mr. Chairman, I am going to be speaking about a survey done by the Media Statistics Inc., which is a prestigious firm out of Silver Spring, Md. We, meaning the MPAA, did not commission this survey. We bought it after it was done when we heard about it. So, this was not a case -- we have commissioned a lot of things, but this is not one of them.
87 percent, 86.8 percent of all these owners erase or skip commercials. I have here, Mr. Chairman, if you are not aware of how this works -- this is Panasonic. This is a little remote control device that you use on machines. It has on here channel, rewind, stop, fast forward, pause, fast advance, slow, up, down, and visual search, either going left or right.
Now, what does that mean, Mr. Chairman? It means that when you are playing back a recording, which you made 2 days or whenever -- you are playing it back. You are sitting in your home in your easy chair and here comes the commercial and it is right in the middle of a Clint Eastwood film and you don't want to be interrupted. So, what do you do? You pop this beta scan and a 1-minute commercial disappears in 2 seconds.
Mr. RAILSBACK. Is that all bad?
Mr. VALENTI. If you are watching a Clint Eastwood film it is the most cheerful thing you can do. However, if you are an advertiser who has paid $280,000 a minute to advertise, he feels a very large pain in his stomach as well as in his checkbook because it destroys the reason for free television.

Did you read my post? That "I'm a Democrat and want to see Bush out of office" was a preface. I might not like Bush, but I don't blame him for all of our problems and certainly not for the current RIAA/DCMA situation. As far as political blame for that goes, it lands on both sides of the aisle. Both Republicans and Democrats voted for it and Clinton was the one who signed it into law. Yes, I liked Clinton as president, but he was far from perfect (obviously ) and the DCMA isn't exactly a shining moment in his career. Of course, the more immediate blame lands on the RIAA's shoulders. Bush really has little to no relevance to this situation. -- -Jason Levine http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/ http://www.PCQandA.com/ http://www.urateit.com/ |

| Piracy is Chump Change in the US
In Asia, parts of Europe, and S. America piracy runs rampant.
You can get a copy of your favorite films on DVD for a couple of dollars US off of many street corners. In some countries there are stalls or shops set up that will burn a copy while U wait.
Granted broadband has made movies more available in the US, but with many titles available at the local Walmart for $10 it's hardly worth the bother except for the hobbyist.
The MPAA's biggest problem right now in the US is illegal copies of rentals which is why they pursued 321studios so aggressively.
The new dual layer DVDs really aren't an issue yet anywhere in the world. With the current price of blanks near what the retail copy of the DVD sell for, it makes no sense unless the prices drastically fall. |

Good point, but there's not much they can do to stop it overseas. They have no legal foothold to stand on in other countries. All the RIAA/MPAA can do is hope that the, say, Chinese reps for Universal Studios decide to lobby the Chinese government to crackdown on piracy... fat chance.
Then again, the bulk of the RIAA/MPAA cash comes from the US sales, so it isn't worth catching crooks overseas. -- AMD Athlon XP 2700+ @ 2.17 Ghz Asus A7V600-X 512 MB of Kingston PC3200 GeForce 5200 FX (256 MB) Seagate 120 GB SATA Windows XP Home |
