i can't buy original

we in bosnia can't buy original games, we buy cracked software on street, and thats problem. ordering original software from austria or croatia is too much expencive. I've download iso images from emule, install game, and i now only can watch it on my desktop.

Re: No workie?

Forget my last post. I just had to turn off the computer completely for about 15 seconds, a normal restart wasn't enough.

Re: No workie?

My question is simply this.. Has anyone contacted SF company and ask how much this virus has caused in damage to people who run there software protected games/programs? I mean all this bickering and bitching between us doesn't help all that much.. Why not ask SF wtf they were thinking installing a "virus" protection scheme on the systems of users? I have Soldiers now I wish I could return it but Umm Lisc agreements prevent me from returning the game GEE I spent 40 bux on a game I can't run cause of my older CDRom drive??!?!!... Where is my refund? where is my compensation for the product I've purchased as the software rights state once the product is opened it cannot be refunded only replaced? or better yet how bout they just give me a new CDRom drive that is compatible? why should I have to suffer for needless upgrades on something I've already purchased and have no valid recourse of? I wanna know what SF people are gonna do to compensate me for the anguish and pain there POS protection has caused me?

@193.172.x.x

hmmm

ah.. maybe when you guys would have been psening a buck or 2 on buying legal software instead of CDR's the industry didn't have to use such drastic measures

just popped in my mind; i don't really recall making backups of any disc i bought.. i had some corrupt discs.. returned them to the software company and received a fresh copy instantly.. now i don't know if all the company work like that but that might have been an interesting idea.. that way you wouldn't have to make backup copies..

sounds like some people are shifting the problem to the other side.. well it seems to me that for now the SC's have found a way to keep your problem on your side..

oh and for those of you that think that not buying this stuff will help your cause in the end?? well.. there is no software company in the world that is going to put money in to a big black hole.. so after several years all the small companies cease to exist and all you are left with is a very enhanced version of tetris or a revival of commander keen..

think about it..

If I were a developer

I'd form and fund a copy protection enforcement trade-group organization and have them surf these boards where you brag about stealing intellectual property. Then we'd go civil and criminal on your butts.

Re: If I were a developer

A simple version of this:

If everyone bought everything they owned, there would be no need for copy protection and in turn no need for cracks.

Hve to work togather

Its funny... they install all this anti-copy software... but i bet if alot of ppl got togather with their old broken CDs and demanded they be replaced and sued.(Being they can't be copied the company should replace any problems with CDs at anytime even 50 years later even if it is the users fault).
I'm sure the companies would cause them to rethink what they are doing. I've been gaming since I was 12 on the good old C64. I hardly buy games anymore because for the most part they suck... and the wonderful viruses that come with them. Sooner or later the only way to fix this problem is to get gamers and PC users in genarel togather and cause mass choas... until the public becomes informed no ones going to stop these fools from stealing anything and everything from your computor... it will only be a matter of time before spyware comes wholesale as part of games as well.

Complain to the companies about starforce

I just found out I have starforce, its like I found out my computer has cancer, it will probably be about as tough to cure too...
I got it from the demo of trackmania sunrise ( »www.trackmaniagame.com/index2.ph···yle=tmsr ), a DEMO of all things to get EVIL copy protection from.
I just sent a polite rant about never buying any game they make to all the contact addresses I could find at the trackmania website ( »www.trackmaniagame.com/index2.ph···tm_links ) also listed here for anyones convenience are the addresses I used. Enjoy.

great!

Now before buying a game I check the cd copy sites to see if it uses starforce. if it does, I don't buy it.

Great going guys! you waste my time and lose a sale.

and is there a solution to starfarce on x64? I think not... good job I have no starforce games eh?

If it can be made than it can be broken

I have already downloaded and played New games that have this starforce protection. There is nothing they can do to stop people from getting and playing software for free. Unless they find technologies from another planet. There will always be someone who knows how it works and cracks it. I just wait for the crack. No big deal.

$50 worth of crap

I have bought one game in the last 4 years and that is Unreal Tournament 2004. No other games have been worth the asking price. Though I haven't bought them I've played every game that I thought I might like. The reason is that software companies make outrageous amounts of money and then bitch about pirates making them loose a portion of that. Oh I'm sorry you can't buy your 3rd yacht but I'm not paying $50 for your crappy software that is worth $10 at the most. I only bought Unreal Tournament because it was $29.99 and I've played it almost every day since I did.
This Starforce protection is like a virus, and hey did anybody think about the fact that Starforce has shown hackers a new way to fuck up our PC's? Thanks alot! I'll be sure to never buy or even consider any games with this protection!

starshit

OK, i like to buy games that i really like.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was a smack in the face. I kinda expected to play the bloody thing at once, but nooooo. something in my hardware didnt like the starshit so called protection - game didnt run at all... untill i upgraded my box. By upgrading i mean almost replacing all the main innards, mboard, ram, cpu......

So, now the game runs. I have paid bloody 30 quid for it, and for what ? so i would be "encouraged" to upgrade ?

OK. I download games first off the net, full versions. Just to check if there is the starshit on it. If its there - i dont buy the game...

Why the hell i should pay for piece of software i didnt order ?

How about lowering the price of games at expense of removing copyprot at all ? that would probably slash prices in half....

@pldt.net

somebody help me...

I got COLD WAR a day before but when i attempted to play the game, starforce protection system checks the disc.

I mounted the image using alcohol, i installed also sfcure, starforce nightmare, etc and yet it doesn't work.

Can somebody help me fix this problem?

Stupid Ubi Soft

I am sick of companies screwing over their customers because they're scared they'll lose some money over piracy. Listen, piracy is sad, but it isn't something you can just stop. Slowing down people like that will inevitably hurt the people who actually buy the game.

I will NOT be one of those people to buy this game, nor any other game with starforce as the copy protection. As a matter of fact, I am going to post this on my pc game review site as a game to be skipped. I hope their sales drop a lot because of this crappy program. I don't think I will buy anything from Ubi Soft anymore... There are enough good games for me to buy that aren't Ubi Soft... Listen, if a company wants to use this poorly designed software that hurts customer's computers, then I won't have anything to do with them. Good Luck Ubi Soft. Not only will I tell everyone I know to avoid your company's games, but you've lost my business.

Stupid UbiSoft... You're shooting yourself in the foot...

Starforce is daft

I have quite a few games that have starforce installed now.

Battlefront 2,
Prince of Persia: 2 Thrones,
and
X3:Reunion

I was intending to buy these games anyway but I would have like to test it first. I do every so often download games and, if they are worth it. I buy them.

The unfortunate thing is that not enough games are giving adequate testers or demos to know whether you are going to like the game for the next day/week/month/year, so they make their money and p*ss off and then make cash cows which they throw out each year. I think its despicable.

Starforce has reinforced my opinion that these companies care more about profit than actually making good games.

If they were really interested in making it worth while to buy a game why dont they use a system similar to Steam. I can move Half life 2 anywhere I like on my 5 drives and it will play no problem; no hidden drivers, no nothing. I am happy with my purchase of HL2 and would never quibble over the price.

The End of PC GAMING!

no 1 here gets *IT* their aim is to make PC copy protection irritating enough, that we only buy the console versions. With the advent of the xbox360 and ps3, this protection will be used on every new game released, and force PC gamers to an unforgiving choice; deal with horrible copy protection software that can and will currupt your raid array (happened to me and MANY others, wish i could sue, but agreed not to in the EULA..so says my lawyer) render your dvd/cd burner permenently broken, happened to people on the forums, or make your pc unusable, on starforce's own forums. This software is WORSE than the sony DRM software. at least that crap only broke things software-wise...this thing will damage your hardware so you can never use it agian, and you agreed to let it do so by clicking, Next, to install.

irritation doesn't cover it, this software has prompted me to return 2 titles i received for xmas, prince of persia the two thrones, peter jackson's king kong, and file complaints with the BBB, suits with my attorney, and letters to the CA, and NY attorney general's...

This is the final bullet, they REALLY _HATE_ pc gamers, and they're pulling out the final straw to show you just how much. I suggest buying an xbox 360, no copy protection, no breaking the console, and if something does go wrong you can return it/replace it without having to make a huge scene (eb games wouldn't take back the faulty software otherwise). if SF3 actually worked the way it was suppose too, or if the sfclean utility actually removed what it said it does...that would be one thing...as it stands, i'm selling my 7800 card, using onboard video, and the proceeds are going towards my xbox360. Welcome to the end of PC Games. If Nvidia or ATI card about the enthusiat market and the millions who spend 500-800 per card every 6 months...NOW would be the time to help us out, otherwise, say goodbye to it. And start the REAL fight to get into the consoles.

starforce protection

I'm writing this on my old out dated laptop as that f**kin star force wrecked my 2 months old pc (cost me 1200 euro cause i bought and ran x3:the reunion for 40 euros and now it starts up displays a poorly explained error message and then freezes
i tried restarting it for about 20 times i cant even return the data cause my backup drive was wasted about a month ago
i hate star force so much that i already tried too start a lawsuit but was rejected every time cause according to something it was perfectly legal (according to them) and that i must have read it somewhere
now i have had nothing to do for the past 5 months waiting to get a response for the various complaints i sent (i doubt i'l get on without more hate mail though)

Reyven

@adsl.cyberc

Not illegal to break copy protection everywhere.

Here in Denmark the law specifically allows circumventing copy protection measures if necesary in order to use a product you bought legally.
