Too bad it wasn't a bald beaver....Heh.
That's like that owl that ran into the power lines carrying a rabbit or something that started one of the big forest fires out west.

It should be their new excuse when you call up to report a problem. Tech support: What can I help you with today? You: My broadband internet and phone line are down. Tech support: It's probably a beaver. Don't worry about it, we'll have it working again soon.

Slow Cooker Beaver Paprika RecipeBy popular demand! Delicious, succulent, tender, outta this world! heheh Well, you'll just have to try it yourself and be the judge. But seriously folks, beaver is a very fine wild game to cook and is quite tasty in a variety of recipes 1. Salt and pepper portions of beaver and brown in melted butter. 2. Transfer meat to slow cooker and add remaining ingredients. 3. Cover and cook on low for 10-12 hours. More water may be added if needed.

From the BeaversMonday, July 12, 2004, 14:55 hrs. pdt.
"Ahem. What was a fiber optic cable doing in wetlands? We beavers strongly object to a species stringing its crap through our neighborhood. I recall a project called the Storm Mtn. stored water power generation facility being kayoed in NYC for the very same reason. Please detour your cables in the future. We have our children to consider." - - BPI.

Levee failureSupposedly Beavers may also be a partial cause of a levee break that occured in San Joaquin county a few months ago. They think that and the shoddy maintance of the levee may have caused it to fail, flooding Jones Tract.
I guess Beavers don't like man's damming competition.

darn squirrels and beaversI had a similar problem recently except with squirrels. We had been having problems for weeks with road runner and the techs could not figure out the problem and why the signal levels in my house were so horrid in the house but perfect at the tap. They finally decided to inspect the aerial drop from the pole to my house and discovered the wire had been chewed and judging by the marks it looks like squirrels. If that happens to this drop the next one is going down the pole into the ground to the house.

Amusing, but one question/comment....this is exactly why fibre (and all sorts-of network cable) is usually run within conduits. In this case, I would assume dropping PVC pipe first would have been a wise idea (for numerous reasons)
I'd like to strangle whoever dropped raw cable. Live and learn, I suppose.
To the beavers: tearin' it up, boys!

so much......for redundancy in their network. 1 fiber optic cable gets cut and the network goes down. Verizon should blame only themselves for their crappy network.

Dear VerizonDear Verizon,
I am writing you to complain about the lack of DSL or other high speed internet services in or within miles of my dam in the wetland area north of Houghton Lake, near the headwaters of the Muskegon River in Michigan. I did find a fiber optic cable that was run in my wetland without my permission and decided to splice it my self to see if I could get any high speed services from it but I realized after cutting it I do not know how or have the tools to terminate fiber optic cable and would like it removed from my property. Please consider making High Speed internet available in this area for me and all the other beavers soon.

how?how would they find a cut in a buried fiber line? Wouldent they have to dig it ALL up to find the cut?

Re: how?Just an educated guess off the top of my head: I think that when light hits where the fibre was cut some of it would be reflected back down the fibre. If you knew the speed of light thru the fibre you could shine a laser down it and measure how long it took for the reflected light to come back plug that into the equation. (speed of light thru fibre) * (time) = 2*(distance to cut)
Just like a laser range finder. either that or they call a psychic adviser; maybe that's where Miss Cleo went. Anyone know for sure?

Yea, it's called a time-domain reflectometer. Works just like you described. So sorry, don't bother filing that application with the Patent Office.

Eh?So how did they find out that it was beaver's fault? Did they match the bite mark with beaver's teeth? Better yet Beaver left a note "It is I the beaver who chew your cable, It tasts like chicken"
