Qwest

If you're looking for a solid connection WITHOUT an explicit "no servers" clause, I believe the best (value) available at the moment is Qwest's Choice DSL Deluxe offering 1536/1024. If you can put up with a slightly lower than average download speed and higher than average latency, then this is the perfect service for a "power user".

Cheaper Porche

I really want the price of Porche's to come down. I also would like the speed limit to go up as well.

Point being it is not going to happen soon.
A company has to make a profit, and selling there downstream bandwidth to home users and using there upstream for there own servers makes sense (including co-located servers).

Technology is not limiting us, money is.

You want Upstream.... Move to Canada

Up here, you can get a 5 down 1 up pipe for 50 bucks a month thru both Shaw and Rogers. Even dsl offers 1.5 down, 500 up with NO transfer limis (telus)

devils advocate

Shareholders want the most bang for their investment buck. It is cheaper to oversell and keep things as they are while at the same time raising prices. Also, don't forget the CEOs that like to pay themselves 10s of millions of dollars per year. If the companies were to pay good money to do the needed upgrades, it is possible that the stock could go down (or even worse, the CEO might have to suffer a pay cut).

well...

Unfortunately at home I'm stuck with a crappy 3.0Mbit/128kbit connection. But, fortunately for me at work I have access to a multigigabit backbone for all my upload needs. I'm only limited by the nic card and processor the computer has

Seriously if you want faster upload go work for an ISP or major corporation in the IT department and its yours.

Smoke and Mirrors

It's not about upload speeds being available it's all about P2P. They don't want you serving and sharing files. Because they want to buy a least expensive pipe and stuff thousands of users on it for big bucks. So we are all gonna sit here with 100mb/256k upload till hell freezes over. The only reason why they raise it a little more, is because 6mb down has a lot of return packets so they have to. If you think they are gonna give you anymore upload than what is needed your in dreamland.

be glad you don't have Alltel

My sister has to pay $50 a month for 768/90 from Alltel, now that hurts. And no, cable isn't an option yet for her area.

Re: be glad you don't have Alltel

ond i believe she's under 5000ft from the CO, so that's not the issue. Alltel just blows. I'll have to speed test it tonight it might actually be 640/90

Re: be glad you don't have Alltel

If your sister is only getting 768/128, have her call their help desk at 888-292-3827 to let them know so it can be corrected. That is the old speed that Alltel does not offer anymore. The new tier1 speed is 1536/128 which she should be upgraded to by now I believe - esp if she is that close to the CO.

What is the F'in problem???

What *I* want to know is....why it's so easy for Comcast to double my D/L speed from 1.5 to 3Mb, but leave my upload the same at 256kb? WTF is up with that? And even if you get the "Pro" Business package, it only went from 3/256 to 4/256. BUT the price jump is 39.95 to 99.95!!! And the Upstream is the SAME?????? I'd like to whip the idiot's ass at Comcast for arrainging this.

I would consider DSL here in Richmond Virginia, BUT only if I could get a reasonable minimum D/L speed garantee. If Existing DSL services here can offer me 384kb and up packages on DSL, what is the issue with cable? AND, where the hell is my FTTC (Fiber to the Curb) and FTTN (Fiber to the Neighborhood)?? I'm less than 5 miles away from the Innsbrook Industrial Complex, which is a Corporate mecca, and there is no Fiber network in place I can tie into???? WTF???

I'd pay up to 50$ a month if SOMEONE could just offer a better/faster package. Don't get me wrong, I like my 3/256, but when you KNOW there is already other technologies out there being offered that are the same price or cheaper that are faster....it makes it a little hard to swallow.
