Poor PA!... You guys probably paid for all this fiber deployment for those states!!! (a huge scam outlined in previous stories)... Never fear tho! Verizon insiders say that a fiber infrastructure is in place in small portions of PA. Good luck tho (to u and your state!) |

yep, me too - if it's not passing my home, it's not doing me any good. I can't even get damn DSL where I live; I get to pay comcast $60 f'ing $$ a month for broadband.
I am getting ready to completely get rid of verizon: got vonage for regular phone, gonna drop Vz wireless for another wireless. Gonna tell them to call me when the fiber is ready to hook up to the house - don't want any copper wire services from them anymore.
On the good side, maybe this will encourage comcast to either up their speeds more (docsis 2.0) or drop the price. not gonna hold my breath, however. |

This is actually old news... people have been reporting fiber lines going up in these areas (and Verizon has been publicly releasing PR's and photos of the Keller, TX area).
Unfortunately, the deployment area involves politics . (what's new)? |

Those prices are great! Good to see this news.
For those in these areas I am sure this brings many smiles. |

Given the applications--communications--for which fiber speeds are beneficial, I would have hoped that the download/upload speeds be more symmetrical, but, hey, 2mbps beats 128kbps (and 768 ...once it gets here).
I don't expect fiber to reach central VA till 2007, though. |

It was an easy (and cost-effective) infrastructure to deploy FTTP. They were just using this test-subject to try things out and see how it goes. |

I'm sure we did. Verizon bent PA over a barrel and reamed us good.
Even though in my area (Lehigh Valley, PA) we do have some options for DSL and cable, the cable options blow as you have RCN and Service Electric (which uses ProLag, I mean ProLog ISP). RCN is "OK", although in bankruptcy and SE is the oldest cable company in the country, and I think they are trying to keep their cable Internet access in parallel with that marketing pitch. I think the max they offer is 1mbps and it is EXPENSIVE.
I'll stick with my slightly more expensive COVAD DSL, but at least the service is rock solid with decent customer support. Just wish I could get some more bandwidth upstream at a decent price. Oh, and I wish they would quit relocating my house with the distance to the CO. -- Scott B. Hustedhttp://www.Husted.cc |
