pay attention to the real issue!

If these companies would simply spend as much time examining and improving their networks as they do blaming others for outages, the network would be flawless!!

Another GX Problem?

I work with Global Crossing and they have no outages on their network at all when the Vonage problems are going on. If they did my cell phone would be ringing all day long with clients yelling cause their service went down.

But also Vonage reported that if they're customers start getting taxed they'll move their offices. Are more outages coming? Prolly so. Also they can't blame GX because of outages becuase if it was them their website wouldn't gone down if it was hosted at another DC because GX does not provide web hosting

 DON'T rush to judgement yet!!

I have Vonage since last March, NO OUTAGE here. Incoming and outgoing are trouble free.

There's still a few Vonage customers who don't have their Motorola MTA behind a router. I was seeing DAILY lockups until I finally broke down and got a router last week.

Agreed. Ive only had vonage for 2-3 months, in that time my service has been down once, for 2 hours. no big issue. but ive already given my rant/defense on the last headline about this a few days ago...

Funny...

My Vonage phone has been up and running all weekend. No problems accessing the website either.

Still up here

I've not had any problems with the so-called current outage but I'm going to give CallVantage a try-they just dropped their rates and I want to see if its static free-Lately I've been getting alot of static and echo's with Vonage.

Re: Funny...

A LPFM Radio station uses Vonage and they couldn't use it last night to make calls. Also the Vonage site was slow.

I've had landline service on my own for over 6 years now, and have NEVER been down!

Same here. Some problems last week. Besides, what's the big deal about downtime - it's not POTS, after all.

Re: DON'T rush to judgement yet!!

If the Motorola MTA is intended to be behind a router, Vonage needs to change their setup instructions on their site (which indicates to the user to hook MTA up between the modem and router).

I agree.. A quick ping test of the GLBX/Vonage routers indicates a very familiar fault. Vonage/GBLX connections are suffering from Routing loops.

Routing loops, where a packet goes bouncing back and forth between two routers until the TTL expires. When it gets into a loop, that same packet grabs 100x the bandwidth until the TTL expires. After that everything is normal for some period of time (30secs to a minute) until the senders TCP protocol times out and issues a retry.

If the routing loops get bad enough, then route flapping will also occur.

At least not when you needed it... But are you positive it hasn't gone down? You monitor your POTS 24/7?

I have had vonage for a week and did not experience an outage this weekend. I was using the phone quite often this weekend.

Re: DON'T rush to judgement yet!!

Actually yes. I have an alarm system that has a log to tell if the line ever went down. Then got a seperate line for that because you shouldn't have both DSL and that on the same line. So now I also have DSL with a 2wire modem and I can tell in that log if it has ever gone out...because the modem has been on 24/7. So in all honesty, yes.
