Comments on news posted 2004-08-09 14:38:51: As we mentioned last week, a scam outfit is taking the bold claims of dial-up compression over the line, promising users not only free "broadband", but also payment if users receive spam, a 404 error, or virus once their phantom product is installed. ..

 Once again...

Say what you want about all of the false promises by the marketing department, but you have to give them credit for getting the product and domain name right. Follow along:

Juice: 6. Slang. Funds; money.

Boost[ed]: 5. Slang. To steal or rob, especially by shoplifting or pickpocketing.

Any questions?

The Original Juice Scam

Sorry, couldn't help it. After all, paying this much attention to the new scammers is probably unwarranted at this time?

No, not unwarranted. Many people use search engines and posts like these will help them find info on frauds like this.

Yes, fine, I see the point now, but if that's the goal shouldn't you include the dreaded name "JuiceBoosted" or "JuiceBoosted.com" somewhere in the body of the article, rather than merely in a link?

Maybe they are looking for bank info

My theory as to what this might be:

When you sign up to be an affiliate, they ask how you would like to be paid. The last two options are safe (paypal and mail) but the first is direct deposit and wants bank account details. This is where they are clever. Anyone with a clue knows never to give out bank information, so most won't, but there are bound to be some fools who give complete bank information to get their direct deposit. If Juice gets 100,000 subscribers (hypothetical) and 5% choose direct deposit, that is 5,000 bank accounts. Because bank info is not required, it doesn't leap out as the reason for the company.

Just my theory, I'm sure the true purpose will be revealed in time.

LOL!

This sounds like what Amway/Quixstar would be like if they were a broadband ISP

Just "juice" and "scam" should be enough.

And the third link in Google points back to BBR's original
article on the juiceboosted scam. But less net savvy
surfers are probably going to buy this one thinking its
for real.

 BBR Supporting Juice! Thanks Google!

Well, thought I might bring this to someone's attention in this thread...but on the "ads by Google" section, there are offerings now FOR this exact Juice service.

Does BBR have any control over what ads Google sends them? I mean...it's kinda wierd to have a scam ad IN the same anti-scam thread!

Actually, Karl, you're proving my point. First, nobody who's checking it out will immediately think to use the search term "scam" -- rather they'll just type the product name.

Further, Google lists your older article highly for »www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&···G=Search precisely because you usd "boost" in the text. Note how DSLR does NOT show up on the first page of Google hits fr "juice boostED" at »www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&···G=Search

So my humble suggestion (to incorporate at least "boost" in the text) still stands.

Re: The Original Juice Scam

Actually, I would type "scam" and "Juice" if I was interested in seeing if Juice was a scam, but I see your point and will add boost to the subtitle....

Be like me, get the Premium account with BBR - it's only $10 in tool points and you'll never have to see ads ever again.

OR just ad Google ad servers to your HOSTS file

My point is I never purchased something to get rid of the ads and never will. Nobody is going to make me do it.

On the other hand if a service/product/subscription is worth the money I will pay.

BBR sure is

Re: The Original Juice Scam

I also am in the habit of googling the name of something followed by scam when checking something out. I'm sure others do as well.

Google for "juiceboosted scam" and you'll find

...another forum thread, this at Scam.com, that is talking
about this as an MLM/Pyramid scam:

And within that thread there appear to be juiceboosted
affiliates (or others trying to defend them).
