Dont make me laugh, you should live in the UK where you are lucky if you can get a 512k connection. I dont think that we will see 100mb it the UK for some time, I doubt we will ever see Fiber to home either -- If you dont like Microsoft, then dont use it and stop complaining, there are other operating systems out there. |

I'm still happy that I just got 3/768. As for Asia being so far ahead of us in broadband, well...uh...nothing I suppose. |

Let see what do we have going on in the States that is slowing down the deployment of these fantastic speeds.
1. wasting time on crap technology like BPL. 2. fighting for space on 800 mhz by A.Blackberry B BlueBerry D Dingleberry D Wifi E LowFi F every Tom, Dick and Harry with a idea 3. TelCo's more interested in suing then doing. 4. Cable with crap because they are the only place it's at. 5. Miles and miles, of miles and miles. 6. Everybody pointing to everyone else as the reason. 7. Fart deployment promises, they smell now and gone later. 8. Politicians who promise, and voters who fall for it. 9. Bought off local governments 10. An FCC that has the collective intelligences of a land snail and moves even slower. -- »www.gobpl.com |

Broadband in the U.S., brought to you by the telco/cable oligopoly: living in the past and burying the future...brought to you by the best lobbying money can buy! |

You missed out 'government that is unwilling to impose regulations on industry'.
I know it's against the holy scripture in the USA, but sometimes, moving forward takes pronouncements that 'you will implement standard X by date Y or you will lose access to the publically-owned spectrum'. |

now that I have read the article:
"The country (U.S.) is alone among developed nations in not having a comprehensive broadband plan."
Slanderous and untrue! The U.S. plan is to give the telcos and cablecos whatever they want so they can continue to make tons of money off legacy copper and poor service while delivering speeds up to 1/100 of those available in other countries.
"Worse, current U.S. policies have the country moving backward."
Absurd! Why, operators are offering the astonishing speeds of 3Mbps (some even 5 or 6Mbps!!!!!) and technologies like BPL (fvk those hams). In 10 or 15 years, the U.S. will have caught the world leaders!
"Competition is the No. 1 [reason] why one country grows faster than another," says Sam Paltridge, the OECD's telecom analyst. On this score, the U.S. has blown it."
Another slanderous lie! Why there are telcos in each region and several cable companies competing for customers. Just because they don't compete in each other's areas (much) doesn't mean we have blown it! |

1 edit | reply to IGotThePower It has more to do with market demand then it does with technology. The Japanese market demands to have the latest and greatest technological things, and their economy is pushed forward by that fact. Americans on the other hand arent as hyped up about having the latest and greatest, at least not like the Japanese anyway.
Besides, why should American Companies RUSH to catch up with Asian Broadband Connections? They dont have as much incentive to upgrade as Japanese companies do. They can sit back and relax since they still are bringing in the profits. |

um, where i live we have had 5mbps to 10mbps avalible for the last 5 years or so, and when it comes to technology, the only way to get ahead is no in the next 10 - 15 years you have to do it now and atleast be on even grounds as everyone else to even surpass them. |

Hello US neighbours.. i was extatic about getting 9m/1m in my neighbourhood.. fastest cable internet in north america.. but i found that i download at same speeds.. why? cus no other network in N/A supports such high speeds.. fastest ive gotten was 8mbps download..
until the N/A networks increase their speeds i wont be benefitting from the speed increase that we got this year..
i think our japanese counterparts might be experiencing the same thing.. because frankly the vast majority of the internet is based on american networks, which are capped at 1/100th of the japanese speeds..
so i wouldnt be too upset.. |

I think this is an article with a political agenda masquerading as news. Do the socialists elite here at DSLR really think you should work a full month out of the year so the govt. can take your money and deploy 100 mbit connections to people on welfare? I would rather have the FREEDOM to spend the money I sacrifice for in a way that I choose, NOT have the government decide for us. The power and freedom to choose should be in the peoples hands, NOT the governments for better or worse. Just imagine the government PIG bending us over with the help of his socialist allies....and you thought the cable pig was bad. Die you commie scum! |
