With their track record?

And I would trust it completely.

Independent?

Spyware detection *has* to be independent. I don't think Microsoft has the ability to be independent with their political climate. It will be interesting to watch the definition of spyware "evolve".

It'd be a hoot I try to install it, and my current AV or firewall flagged it as being malicious

I agree kind of. If Gator sued Lavasoft.. imagine what slime are going to sue Microsoft.

I wonder what the loop holes will be to get on the 'ignore' list or will they shock me and be another S&D clone.

Just what we need

Someone give me one reason why we should trust microsoft to protect us against something they were originally leaving us wide open to...
and hey....heres an idea...FIX YOUR F*CKING BROWSER AND WE WOULDNT HAVE THESE SPYWARE PROBLEMS!!!!!!!
We dont need more add-on CRAP taking up memory so one program can fix another

No doubt it would...Microsoft would find a way to profit off it via a 3rd party, like report back all thepeople who have sextracker cookies and automaticly signs every email address used in outlook, up for tons of porn email!!

That won't do it.

Even with every possible technical precaution - and XP/SP2 goes a long way - there will still be users who will install anything if asked to. Until "idiot users" are addressed, spyware is going to be a fact of life.

Whether Microsoft's solution will be any good remains to be seen.

ye Microsoft sells us crappy buggy software, then releases a million windows updates to patch the problem.
Why can't they test their stuff more, so we users don't have to do it for them (for free).

What worries me is if Microsoft somehow decides to make this spyware tool built into future windows editions. Just like the silly excuse for a firewall they put into Windows XP !!!

They are making other companies go bankrupt by monopolizing everything.
IMAGINE IF in a 100 years the ONLY software company on earth is MICROSOFT !!!

in reality

i think it is as much a behavior problem that anything. web programmers have conditioned people to have to download a plug-in for every fucking thing. A trend needs to start where more things are implemented on the server side and through .NET. If the good guys get people less addicted to downloading plug-ins then the public will be more skeptical to download just anything.

on that note, I wish MS would just buy Mcaffee and get it over with, they already provide everything MS wants to do and hell the new security center in XP2 is a direct ripoff of Mcaffee. Hell Mcaffee even sees MS firewall.

Every software needs patches, microsoft is a god damn OS it needs more patches then average software.

'Just like the silly excuse for a firewall they put into Windows XP !!!'

Better then nothing, if they didn't put anything in it there would be idiots bitching about how there is no firewall in windows xp.

'They are making other companies go bankrupt by monopolizing everything.'

Umm go take some business classes.

'IMAGINE IF in a 100 years the ONLY software company on earth is MICROSOFT !!! '

Not gonna happen.

Anti MS BS!

Would be nice, just 1 time, when a post on MS comes up that every anti-MS person just ignore it if they have nothing of value to add.

Weird that everyone complains about MS and IE and when MS says they are looking to enhance functionality to address the items, someone finds flaw with them.

I welcome all MS solutions, just as I welcome everyone elses. In the end, the beneficiary is usually the consumer with more choices.

microsoft

i would try it. just because i recall the days when there was no standard and software would not run and was very buggy. micro came along and helped propel the industry. i do not understand why every one hates microsoft so much and dont really care why.

What ever happened to some court order not to include IE with windows installs?
Didnt they have this beef with netscape because they dont have as good a chance of getting their browser out there because Windows already has a packaged browser.

Im liking the spreading of firefox, especially when they hit that 1 million download mark early. Everyone needs to help spreading the word. Everyone needs to do what they can to spread it to more people and help rid the world of this evil virus code named Internet Explorer.

Re: Independent?

By the political climate I mean Microsoft will be in the business of pick-n-choose what and how they report "spyware".

Anyone that loves or hates Microsoft can agree they are damned-if-they-do and damned-if-they-don't on a constant basis. Too constant to be effective in spyware detection.

Hehe... The comments are already showing my point.
