hmmm

How does that in any way differ from what you can do now? I am referring to being able to use a softphone from a hotspot.

It varies in that, if I understand the point of the announcement correctly, your Vonage account will be sufficient for you to connect to any Boingo-affiliated hotspot. Interesting question I have: will that also allow use for email or surfing (one presumes not).

VOIP companies are becoming more like oppressive telcos for which they were created to be distanced from. ;)

Better Phone Design

You'd think that one of these companies would come out with this type of phone design!

Wireless phonebooth

Hmm, a shoe phone?? How about a portable wireless phonebooth to take those personal calls?

...plan to allow their wireless customers to roam between the Cingular network and the SBC Wi-Fi network;...

...to which I think they're referring to going from a cell or PCS network to the WiFi and maybe back to the cell/PCS net, possibly during a call. The idea is to get your minutes off the (expensive) cell net and onto another (less expensive) net.

Ewww, I don't want to put the side of my face on the bottom of my shoe. Who knows what I could have stepped in.
