Free dialup...

...that's worse than paid broadband.

Edit: You know, if I owned that satelite I would be kinda pissed off.

Dialup...

It's funny because the dialup probably outperforms the satellite connection.

Yes!
and being p-d off would come with a hefty price tag!

Wow....IA-8?

Talk about happening at just the right time! Just think if that launch was still a year off.

Losing a broadband feeding satellite makes a fiber cut seem like static during a phone call.

We also lost few channels

I was working on Sunday morning (Cable co) and we lost Playboy channel. Our reseller told us they lost the satellite link between them and Playboy broadcast.

I told them to either get a computer and link it to the Internet with us or to use our On-demand porn movies service

BTW, one of the customers was 81 years old and called at 8h00 am...

That's why there's insurance. Yes, companies put insurance on their satellites.

Lost channels also

There were alot of channels feeds on that satellites also.

I was on call this weekend and didnt any calls from customers till about 9:30 am Sunday morning.

WE had 26 channels in total to go out. A&E pod(Bio, ect) IFC, all Adult programming, DIY,Fuse, about half of all of our PPV/InDemand.

Most channels switched over to Telstar 13, which we here had to realign one of our LNBs to be able to see it.

Re: Lost channels also

Yeah, we lost quite a few (the same I imagine) in Omaha and also switch to Telstar 13, but it took a few hours to do so. Had lots of people calling in because their late night porn wasn't working.....

"The satellite was self-insured by Intelsat". Per the press release issued by Intelsat Ltd.

Funny what goes around comes back at you.

Maybe now. Starband will stop sending DNS requests to
my company's system.

Even after complaining to them. They could not be
bothered to check thier DNS servers. 1000's of request
aday are misdirected to our system. We are not a
public or private DNS server.

I really felt like setting up a mini-dns server to take
those requests and direct them to somewhere very
inappropriate. Somewhere like a spam or porn site.
But then I said naaa.

Re: Dialup...

Yup, if you are using VPN or any non html protocol then yes dial up is better.

This Whole thing is just another nail in Sat BB's Coffin.

I think I will stick with my p*ss poor dial up for now.

Ouch!

Doesn't $6,000 - 11,000 seem a BIT STEEP for the equipment!?!? Especially considering Directway is $600? I don't see how Starband could be THAT much better.

Well judging by those stations lost, and broadband satellite service.

Nothing was really lost now was it?

Hard to believe anyone noticed it missing!
