Comments on news posted 2004-12-16 12:18:07: If you recall the recent anti-spyware application comparisons done by Eric Howes, you'll note that Giant spyware, a paid app not well known by many, fared very well overall. ..

Could be a good thing

If MS is serious about security and not gut the company. Especially if they start offering this program for free you can have a whole bunch of people with much more secure systems. Just yesterday I got done cleaning up two comps with hideous amounts of Malware and not all came from the use of IE (so don't go saying they should use Firefox) and if MS provided a tool I think a lot more people would be capable of cleaning and securing their own systems.

its more like saying you will join us, or we will smash your company to bits and get nothing.

Microsoft again takes what it wants.

Re: Could be a good thing

This can be a very good thing as longas (as was mentioned above) MS doesn't gut the company.

But, I'm sure the MS bashers will find more criticisms. Check that, the MS bashers are already out.

Didn't just "fare very well overall"

It should be noted that Giant didn't just "fare very well", but came out on top of all of the tests. It looks like Microsoft has made a wise choice here, and I'm looking forward to what will undoubtedly be an excellent application.

Wait...

Now that I think about it...

Will Microsoft still sell the Giant product to fix problems that are in the original product?

Would it not be easier to fix the original product?

You mean, Miscrosoft again BUYS what it wants.

No sense critisizing MS. Giant had to sell in order for it to be bought.

Well said!

As with *ANY* purchase, said item has to be for sale and sold by the "owner".

Hopefully they don't screw up perfectly good software. I also use Giant's Spam Inspector and love it.

Reminds me of the Simpson's episode where Bill Gates buys Hypercompumegaglobalmart from Homer.

Homer

Has anyone seen that episode of the Simpsons when Homer starts his own company and Bill Gates comes along, tells him it's his now, and has thugs beat him up for it? Awesome episode...

Yes it was a funny episode. Someone mentioned about it in the previous post.

This reminds me of a song I heard a very long time ago and fits well with it.

Re: Join us or Die...

just stating facts, who says it was for sale? Mircosoft has done this in the past, with threats and ongoings. I know I worked for them for 2 years I know what goes on.

GIANT/MICROSOFT

GIANT was a prime takeover opportunity for Microsoft. I am wondering whether or not Microsoft will move the company to Seattle. Giant is a New York Based company. I really think the move was wonderful and smart, not a lot of details on the website, but as someone who just started depending on Giant about a month ago. What support there will be for the product.
I did find some flaws in the product, just recently. Like it didn't clean all the traces. for example in the Extract downloader trojan it would kill it trace by trace. SO i had to scan 3 times in order to get that trojan removed. I brought it to their attention. It still is a better product in my comparisons than spysweeper or adaware.

Adding this as a security feature makes a lot of sense. Security is really hot right now. If you take a look at the Giant product you will know why. It looks like a product that microsoft can deal with its interface is intelligent.

Re: Didn't just "fare very well overall"

they could revamp activex and fix the problem internally, instead of adding another layer of bloat, but why do that?

no point in scraping off useless layers of paint, just gloss it over with another coat

(p.s. why would you feel the need to "spread" a program that almost everyone already has by default? should they download it a few more times for laughs?)
