Broadband in Canada has been very competitive for a while (I have 4800/800 cable at school and 5500/600 cable at home, both only 45 CDN$ a month) but over the past year it seems like the average broadband in america is starting to pick up the pace with upgrades to service speeds. I'm sure they'll be level with canada soon enough.
Actually we are flying off to 7mb cable and 8mb dsl shortly.... now let's see how long it takes for the U.S.A. catch up to that. I certainly hope you catch up fast because the internet will be a bit more faster and the bottle neck will reduce a little.

I'm throwing the idea around in my head trying grasp the math...but logically in reason it would seem the faster a connection is the less of a burden it is on the infrastructure of the internet because the less time it spends obtaining data. (However this can be negated by bandwidth HOGS..)

Re: more cable ISPS should offer more than 512K up

RCN is 800k upload for most of their cable services (5mbit,7mbit, upcoming 10mbit!)
Not the cheap 768/256 package

Because he corrected himself for saying gay in the OP and said horrible instead later. I agree, using gay as an insult is bad. At least he realized that it was wrong when someone pointed it out, which is more than a lot of people can do.

upstream speeds

I video conference into work in the afternoons. Lets me pick up the kids.
I have Comcast UltraLink (yes still) which WAS 4 down and 768 up. (about 630 reallife) for a year UNTIL a year ago when Comcast upped the downstream rate for everybody else they actually CUT my upstream in half but also cut my bill in half.

GIVE ME THE ADDED BANDWIDTH ANY DAY

I have had to add a DSL modem just to get back to what I had.
