I know that Verizon in Tampa is running fiber to all of the homes in the area. I have several friends who already have the fiber run to their door. I haven't been so lucky : ( |

I'm sorry, but I think all of this is a bunch of BS. Want proof, look at Verizon and how they lied to Pennsylvania. You have a better chance of wining the lotto then getting the truth from a baby bell. |

Roll me up some money, too....
Pike & Fischer publish a bunch of rather expensive reports and newsletters on various industry segments, most or all of which relate to the FCC.
Of course, their biggest base of subscribers are the players with lots of money to spend on multiple subscriptions--so is it any wonder they parrot the ILEC line?

We will never see fiber. SBC doesn't even try on getting DSL to our home. We are using a 32.6 Kb dial-up for now. |

 Hayes 300 Smartmodem |
Ah...my 300 Smartmodem, and then my Hayes 1200 a bargain at $399...and 2400 was jes smokin when I bought one of those!
From a 1987 article in the local paper: "The same phenomenon is beginning to show up in a heightened interest in 9600 baud. Where will it end? Some experts say 9600 is the highest baud rate that even good quality phone lines can support. But the researchers who pushed the highest baud rates from 300 to 1200 and then to 2400 and now to 9600 know that the experts were wrong before, and even now some of them are talking of 38,400-baud modems within a decade." |

Um wasn't this being said years ago? Didn't we hear something like this in 1999 and before? So how far away is this actual 10 years. Are we working in dog years, human years or some other type of calendar year that most of us aren't aware of? Isn't Google going to give us all our dream ISP?:D
"Somebody tell me when will fiber come to MN"
There is tons of it already there. Just no one has made it go live and put it to use. |

my area will never see fiber unless a private company runs it. we have nothing here. Super K-Mart and Wal-mart are the largest stores here. SBC the telco won't give us fiber cause we don't fit in there ROI and TWC just gives us crappy cable.
The richest person in the area is a Quixtar partner and most likely has a T1 if not higher to his mini-white house.
Edit: spelling. |
