Umm..

Do these people pushing for BPL not care about the lives of those who will use their service? We already know what it can do to emergency communications, and some of the things we enjoy today (like radio, sat.).

I'm going Mac. It's as simple as that. Hey look, I'm a poet and did'nt even know it.

It hasn't worked yet...why should it now?

I haven't seen ANYTHING that says BPL is viable given the current technology. Maybe it's time to re-think all this??

Doing It The Hard Way

When there is a true emergency such as the power grid failure or 9/11, and the radio Hams can't interface with each other to bring emergency help where it is needed most, the BPL will have learned a bitter lesson at the expense of human life. The opposing sides need to work together to implement a fail safe solution that meet the needs of all.

Greed only serves itself.

PS: When phone lines and power lines are down cell phones don't work. Hams do not need either one to communicate, but they do need space .

We should ask the FCC that question... they are the idiots who endorsed it in the states. Glad Powell retired to promptly!

Before some idiot posts "power lines being down brings BPL down".

It won't matter if the area they are tring to talk to also has BPL.

Re: Umm..

Say that when your left with no other form of commucation.
I find that people who what ham radio to die, are the ones that know nothing about it.

So before you want something to die, I dare you to go to a ham radio club meeting and find out what all my fellow Ham Radio operators do for the community. In my home state of Georgia, they allow ham radio operators to get their tag with their radio call for free. The reason why they do this is because Ham Radio operators do so much for the state, and do it for free. So I put it to you again, go to a ham club meeting and then tell say you want something to die.
I will be happy to give you a list of clubs in Vienna, Va.

But also in events like those listed above... YOU'RE NOT TRYING TO GET HELP FROM PEOPLE HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD... Only those that are located within a few miles of the emergency... So, most likely, those same people that you are trying to get in contact with are also affected by the emergency AND THEY ALSO DON'T HAVE POWER... Bottom line, you will be able to talk to them...

Just what the hell are they going to do? The point is to get in touch with those that can actually help you...

It's not like the HAMS were the first to know about it... Christ, there were rescue services there immediately...

Untrue, there were several very remote areas (read no roads, no phones, no medical services) that took some time to reach. If it wasn't for the HAM operators the rescue services would have had no information as to the situation and would have arrived unprepared.

Don't waste your time and knowledge on this puny gaming punk.
He will never even go and check it out. After all downloading his pxrn and games is what's more important. These are the kinds of people that promote and support things like BPL no matter what damage it causes. When there is an emergency in his area, he will be the first one to cry out "is there a ham around?" But we would still help him regardless of his pros and cons. Perhaps he should put a sign in his front yard saying "hams stay out" then he will get no help from us when it counts.
