Anyone surprised? I'm not.

It's been like that for as long as I can remember no matter who was 'in charge'. How else do you think the gov't gets so efficient at screwing over the taxpayers, stealing their money and wasting it? There is no entity more corrupt than gov't.

What on earth...

That is scary indeed. Between legislations like PATRIOT and the DMCA and people like this getting positions of that sort, Big Brother is getting very scary.

That's Just Plain Scary

More and more of this stuff reminds me of Orwell's 1984. Here's a fun quote to boot.

2012

I've heard for the past few years that the end of the world 'as we know it' will take place in 2012.

Looks like it's early.

He's the Privacy Master

Well, Freeman should be very knowledgeable about personal privacy, after all, he's done more than most others to invade it on such a large scale.

I am lost

I hear the tone in this forum that nobody likes how things are done in our govt. but what is the plan to stop this crap. we need a voice in this country to take it away from corp. by all means necessary.

DHS also has a DoubleClick connection

The Salon article also mentions that the Dept. of Homeland Security's chief privacy officer used to work for DoubleClick.

Great.

ROFL!

It's like putting Osama Bin Laden in charge of National Security. Absolutely ridiculous.

The End is Near!!

Just like the millions of tax payer dollars lost in their great computer systems upgrade that failed here is another example of the so called "political genius" that runs the US.

We need to send The Donald to address our government leadership and tell them based on their actions in securing our technology sector, "Your fired"!

Glad I live in Canada

I am sure glad I live in Canada right now, privacy is a major issue here and the House of Commons even passed a bill addressing spamers, etc. Not even the Canadian verson of the RIAA can get your name via your ip address.

Not to worry, much

D. Reed Freeman, the "chief privacy officer" you bet, and a dog can take a crap in a Church, but that doesn't make it a holy object of veneration. Keep in mind this so called Integrity Committee is just a figure head thing. They get paid way too much money to meet several times a year to drink coffee, eat at expensive restaurants, stay in 5 star motels and we the tax payers pick up the tap. They will make recommendations that no one in the OHS will listen to, or care about. I would imagine this is a pay-off for political contributions. Most everyone in the cyber-world knows who this offering to the Canine Lawn Goddess is, and that is where in counts.

I dunno, it seems just as good as any other random number people could make up and attach the end of humanity to.
