...If Google brings the same creative ingenuity to its calendar as Gmail, I can't wait for the new product.
I mean...who thought webmail could be improved. From the old staples Yahoo and Hotmail to the kind being offered by every mom and pop portal...webmail was webmail. But Google found a way to make it better.
I look forward to any new product Google might have to offer. -- ::: Do, or do not, there is no try:::»www.kapilville.com |

It's sort of how you accept the risk of falling out of the sky when you fly on a commercial airplane....could it happen, YES!. But will it, probably not.
Could someone exploit the weakness in Google's code to attack me...YES! But will it happen...probably not because A) I'm not that attractive of a target and B)Google is a lot more prudent about patching up holes than many other companies. -- ::: Do, or do not, there is no try:::»www.kapilville.com |

Google and MSN's bots have been hitting my PHP iCal non-stop for over a year. This is no indication that Google is going to have a calendar service.
Their bots are just spidering through the many, many, thousands of infinite links that the php script creates.
I admit I could be wrong - all I'm saying is that this is nothing new, and is not proof of Google offering or thinking about offering a new service. |

...Except for its lack of HTML encoding, no add'l POP account checking/sending, no ability to sort mail by sender and general lack of customization. Labels are nice, but it needs work.
Ultimately GMail can be the top webmail service available, but they need to incorporate amenities that their competitors have been offering for years.

| Were It Not for Calendaring
I would not have had to deploy Exchange for my company. The one big part of Exchange that every one of my users wanted was a shared calendar service. The iCal based calendar tools that are out there just haven't been 'ready for prime time'. If Google changes that, then it really lifts the need for Exchange, at least in situations like I was dealing with. I'd be especially happy if a good, integrated calendar server (with a good MAPI plugin) for Unix came out, because I then wouldn't need to have any Windows systems in my infrastructure.

said by CoxTech1 :Google and MSN's bots have been hitting my PHP iCal non-stop for over a year. Well, FWIW, Google and MSN bots seem to hit just about any PHP page pretty hard. They're always at the top of the bots list in my server logs. Makes me wonder if they're doing that to monitor various PHP-related apps. Yeah, could be far-fetched, but it has me curious.

I earn a living working on Microsoft technology. As such, I keep MS bashing to a minimum. Having said that, I feel that Microsoft has certain responsibilities that come with being a market leader that Google, for now, does not.
It's sort of how we accept that there are people amongst us that can't tell the difference between 'your' and 'you're' or that a certain number of us will cheat on our wives....but we expect our presidents to adhere to a higher standard.
Just about every computer in the world runs Microsoft software, it seems. Including, I presume, some mission critical systems at the best and the brightest of American (and international) enterprises.
If all Microsoft systems were to crash all of a sudden, it would bring the world's economy to a screeching halt. If Google goes away, we can use another search engine, another webmail service or, GASP!, go back to looking things up the old fashioned way.
All I'm saying is, a certain amount of MS bashing is warranted because Microsoft appears to put money before everything else. That is in stark contrast to Google's hippie-style culture where everyone shares the love and gets high on new javascript from India. -- ::: Do, or do not, there is no try:::»www.kapilville.com |
