Utah Sucks

Utah Sucks. Always has, always will. SLC is the most violent place in the country. I got in more fights in the summer I spent there than in the whole 6 years I lived in Las Vegas. I say they get what they deserve. Repressed, backwater, incestuous hicks. F them.

Hey!

I would gladly do the pr0n site monitoring for the state of Utah. All I would need would be a free and limitless credit card that I would never have to repay, 50 new giant flat screen TVs, a few new computers and my ALL of my bills covered. Best thing is I would do it remotely from the state, so no more of the nasty, evil, disgusting images from the pr0n sites would venture into the great and fair state of Utah.

Seriously, this is dumb as hell. Are they going to stop copies of adult magazines from being delivered to the people who subscribe to them in the state? Nope. What about people who subscribe to sites of their own free will? I would hope not. I think the ISP's would have a better chance with the interstate commerce argument verse a technical argument, even though it is going to be pretty challenging to say the least for the ISP's to filter the content for JUST Utah.

Now if the church wants people to live a certain way, then so be it. But making it the law of the land is too extreme and crosses the boundary between religion and cult in my opinion.

Ho Hum

This is nothing new. The "internet" as a whole has been trying to block porn since the first FREE smutty little picture appeared as a .gif ten years ago.

Personally I don't care who watches it. I do care when I am researching a serious topic and every search returns porn. I think since the people who program search engines like Google don't know how to write code to keep the stuff corralled they need help. All sex sites, except those used to teach grades K-12, should be hosted on porn ONLY Apache servers. Those in the US that find a host elsewhere get the double whammy. Host and site get heavily fined. XXXX, not in the US or under its jurisdictions, who try to relay to the US, get their hard work sent to the bit bucket. The only message they see where their website once was displayed is directions to find the new XXXX servers

I downloaded porn of the Internet longer ago than 1995...

...and I was, by no means, the earliest to have done so.

Liability?

"Upon request by a consumer, a service provider may not transmit material from a content provider site listed on the adult content registry."
So, lets say that I am an ISP in Utah, and I actively block the sites on the Adult Content Registry, by either DNS or some other method.

Now lets say that some smart kid uses an anonymous proxy, or Remote Desktop, or SSH Shell, or alternate DNS server to bypass my filter. Am I still liable? According to the law, I am. Technology is out there to bypass any blocks that an ISP may put out there, and can be installed by anybody with enough persistence. The big problem comes along when the line is drawn of how much work the ISP needs to do to block the sites to make them not liable anymore.

only if the proxy, remote desktop or SSH shell is on the blacklist. But you are responsible for an alternate DNS (unless your TOS prohibits using alternate DNSes). I guess a lot of kiddies are going to be trading host files in UT.

This PROVES how clueless politicians are!

All this does is prove how purely CLUELESS politicians are about most things in general and the Internet in particular! Politicians these days are SO CLUELESSLY ARROGANT that they think passing (more) laws will fix EVERYTHING!!

All this proves is how DUMB they are..and how F***ED up their priorities are! Why not fix the problems with Iraq (where Americans are getting killed every day!) or health insurance, or homelessness and poverty,or our highways, bridges and schools falling apart?

NO...our "stewards of the people" have better things to do..like worry about inserting themselves between health decisions of husbands and wives (Terri Schiavo), Internet porn, steroid use by baseball players and Janet Jackson's nipple!

George Bush got woken up at 1 AM and immediately flew from Texas to Washington DC. to sign the Schiavo bill. How come he doesn't do that when people freeze to death in the slums of Washington each and every cold winter night? Instead, he CUTS funding to shelters!

We have to throw the whole lot of them out before something gets done though...and a snowball has a better chance of surviving in a 1000 degree oven then that happening...

And that's sad...

Reading the headline from this, I had to believe for a
minute this was some early April Fool's joke. But coming
from the state that gave us Orrin 'Down The' Hatch,
anything is possible.

Government Approved Porn URLs? Tell this isn't a serious
story! It still beggars belief.

With the deep pockets the Porn industry, and their bud's in the ACLU have this will be in court for years. After all you can't have a Cross any where but NMBLA, National Man Boy Love Association, has every right to exist, according the the ACLU.

Well all other national and regional ISPs should simply stop providing any services in Utah. They should simply block all people living there from accessing their networks.

Just what is a "Government Approved Porn URL"? Is that like USDA Choice porn? LOL!

Now the porn sites can try to draw customers by claiming they are Government Approved.

Clueless, truly clueless......

@rr.com
