Anon | Re: Does DSL need a Dialtone?
you're argument about installing winpoet is way weak! alright... it's like saying you shouldn't install any app. on your pc for fear of not installing. don't install winamp! buy a stereo!?

Anon | I'd like to point out an error in this article. Worldcom/UUNET is not presently using PPPOE, at least for its business oriented DSL. The reasons are numerous, but UUNET SDSL offerings include static IP addresses, which nullify the DHCP issue. The layer 2 protocols that UUNET uses depend upon the CLECs, but there is not currently PPPOE implemented on UUNET SDSL. |

Anon | Excellent article, this guy understands. The ISP's argument for PPPoE does not hold water. In fact, I don't understand how it may benefit them long term. Except for the fact that they can use their existing dialup technology to service the accounts. Big brother stuff like having you log on is not their intent, they are not that well though out. |

@newtel.com | What it will mean is more customers for the others
In a competitive market, given the choice of a pretty piss poor connection or a normal connection, the savings or penny pinching done via PPPOE will be negligible due to loss of business. |
