What can be faster than immediately? The only delays I notice on various dsl and cable lines is from poorly desinged webpages, such as a delay in drawing the whole page because of table encapsulation or other lousy programing errors. Accelerators won't fix that. -- Formerly the Snow Miser... |

said by TweakFreak88 :is this really needed w/ broadband connections transfer rates today? It's still faster to load websites through a local cache sometimes. Especially if the site is bogged down. While you are reading a page, the "accelerator" can be downloading other links from the site in the background. |

I'm with that guy. Even if a website is bogged down, you can always view the cached version from yahoo and google search engines. |

This has to tie in with their advertising program somehow.
I'm sure this allows them to aggregate information somehow and mine that to create algorithms to better serve ads. |

| Google spyware?
While I suppose it's obvious to some, and discoverable to those who read the privacy policy, Google isn't making it too obvious that this is their way of monitoring all your activity. I wonder if the pages delivered through their servers will have add-on Google advertising? That could turn into a copyright problem real fast with the owners of the affected sites. If Google isn't tacking on ads after the fact, I'm not quite sure what they get out of this service... which is creepy, because they surely are aiming to get something out of it.
And as others have asked, why do I need a page accelerator on a broadband connection? |

People who are paying a premium to their dial up ISP for this feature can now get it free from Google and save a few bucks every month. Nice. -- For web hosting, I choose Powweb. |

How many people look for cached pages just because the real one is loading slowly? This web accelerator thing will end up being useful to people for lots of reasons. |

OK, so I get it working....
...I dont think it does ANYTHING...
Load Time for 81 Pages Without Google Web Accelerator: 2.1 mins With Google Web Accelerator: 2.1 mins Total Time Saved: 0.0 seconds
I tried it set to dialup, dsl, AND T1, and none made a difference... maybe someone with 56k can have better luck? To me it just seemed like requests took longer... Plus I dont like things that cache stuff on my drive, I like to make the sites send me all the data possible, instead of wasting drive on it. |

There's always a little bit faster. No an accelerator won't fix poor page design, but no page is immediate. There is always a little delay. This is to help reduce that delay. That's all. |
