| America on Hold 1994 style Back in '94 I went for their massive 5 free hours when the diskette came.
Then, after deciding all the shiny, play-pretties and "You've got mail" grammatical abortions weren't for me, I was allowed to do the "I want to quit" dance. If that wasn't enough, after they did me the favor of allowing me to separate from them, they dinged my card for the random figure of $124.57. That was fun getting that off the balance.
They just plain, flat f'in suck. -- "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." -Will Rogers

| ADS They raise their prices and STILL leave the spam and ads in your inbox! I went to a friends house for the night and went online using his S/N. I went to his email inbox and there were "lower your morgage rates TODAY! Just click your state!" I me an they put animated ads on dial-up people's accounts! WTF? | |

| Pop up Haven I don't know why anyone would want to subject themselves to the continued barrage of pop up advertisements from this bulky resource hog of a program and provider. I cringe every time I have to configure a customer's computer to use this POS. I really resent having to clean up after they dump their malware on my customers computers. Now I don't mean to dump on 'ol AOL, but the truth is, well, the truth. And people pay a premium price to use their junk! Hopefully one day they will fail. | |

| BYOA still $9.95 for me I've never paid more than $9.95/mo for BYOA although NO dialup time was ever included for that price. When they announced a $9.95 plan that included 10 hours of dialup last month, I called and got the dialup time added to my account. After reading today's report of a price increase I got suspicious and checked my billing details at Keyword: Billing. In spite of the announced increase, it looks like I'm still at the $9.95 price with unlimited broadband access and 10 hours of dialup time. I'm content with that and will keep AOL as long as they don't try jacking me up to $14.95. I get my money's worth for ten bucks a month. | |

1 edit | AOL prices are outrageous. I'll never understand why someone would pay $25/mo for dial up. There a many dial up ISPs that provide quality service for about $10/mo. There are special deals for DSL service for less than what AOL charges. AOL has been losing customers steadily and I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't prompt more users to jump ship.
Edited to add: I had AOL when it was night time usage only and you had to load GEOS to use it. I beta tested the first Windows version. I left when the service got lousy and there were other more reasonably priced ISPs available. -- God put me on this Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. | Don't dish the help! Hey,
Cool it with slagging the AOL reps. Yeah, they get paid shit but that is no reason to disrepect them and treat them like shit. They probably get bonuses, commissions and incentives for preventing cancellations and upselling. She has bills too you know!

 Just a moron I guess
@aol.com
| All this whining makes me want cheese! Let's see, the stock symbol for AOL is... AOL. Now since I am a moron using AOL it is nice to know that I was stupid enough to buy lots of AOL stock twelve years ago when they were in their infancy... More whining? Of course when Hitler and his henchmen took over the white house the time was ripe (like grapes on the vine, more whine please) to get out of pretty much all stocks. Now since I was President and CEO of a corporation it was nice to be able to check on the status of email I sent to see if my board (required to have an AOL address from before me) had read them. Made for some amusing times at board meetings. The standardized email addresses made it easy for correspondence, I can't remember half of them now that everybody has started changing email addresses as often as socks. Having longevity to an email address also has it's perks. My two businesses have had the same .aol email addresses for nearly ten years and there have been single transactions that have paid the entire ten year balance. As far as paying $24 a month, if that is a large sum to you then you should listen and learn that if you complain and tell them you are going elsewhere they will give you the same unlimited dialup service for $15 a month. There is another advantage over broadband dial-up service has: If I am visiting my mother and I need to conduct business I can plug my laptop right into her phone line and away I go. No, she doesn't have broadband, as a matter of fact she has never even sat at a computer. Not many places I go where there is not a RJ9 connector available. Just remember, whine goes much better with cheese than crow! Chi chi!
Just your run of the mill moron:)

| Adapt or Die If a company fails to adapt to changing market, it will die. AOL thinks that they're still in the scene, only because of their extensive ad push. Most of the OEM computers have some AOL crap usually with free 6-month trial. First time users get used to that and call it their internet and are paying premium for it. But broadband becomes more popular option, first timers jump on that and don't look at AOL. High prices don't help. I want to see a ratio of new customers vs leaving customers. -- Semper Fi | |

@comcast.net | Thats hilarious I wonder what experiment they were doing by lowering it just for a month..... oh well, I saved 5 bucks last month at least, looks like its back to normal for my BYOA from here.

looks like its back to normal for my BYOA from here. You sure? I assume by "normal" you mean $14.95. Go to Keyword: Billing and check your price. Mine stayed at $9.95 (and it better stay there).

1 edit | It's all because of Julia Roberts that they had to raise prices, they have to keep paying her to do all those tv ad voiceovers. Someone should call her and tell her how uncool it is to be advertising for AOL. I heard Catherine Zita Jones was on the way out at T-Mobile, maybe Julia could use her talents there instead. Wireless is much more sexier haha

family has AOL dial up. We have chosen it strictly on a financial basis. And, we are not paying full price. I love AOL. For my personal and business needs it fulfills everything. At this point in time, I don't see a need for anything faster, nor do I want to pay anything more money. -allbuzines-:)
