hmm

Anything that has do with aol has gone in the poop house. Even Time Warner took aol name out of its name. I guees the past aol CEO sold time warner a bunch of snake oil.

I don't feel bad for them. They did the same to ted turner. Then again I don't feel bad for anyone that has more money in the bank then I do.

Re: add/remove programs

I have IE on my XP boxes and FF on my Mandriva boxes. Everybody I know uses either IE or FF... I really don't think there is a place for Netscape in the browser market anymore.

I think this AOL/Aluria snafu had just put another nail to Netscape's coffin...

My favorite part...
Unfortunately if Netscape 8 remains installed then the registry key is continually rewritten

what type of behavior does this sound like...

AOL is digital kudzu

From Netlingo:

said by netlingo.com:
This refers to the placement of small computer files in seemingly every nook and cranny of a computer's system during the installation of an application. Any attempt to later delete that application inevitably leaves some digital kudzu behind, to interfere with other computer processes forevermore. What a PITA!
This describes AOL's effect on your OS to a tee!

I'll admit it... I use Netscape 8

It is ashame that so many of you have been turned off of Netscape just because of its affiliation with AOL. While I agree that AOL sucks badly, I find the new Netscape 8 to be quite useful.

At first I too was not going to try the new Netscape simply because of AOL, but because of my love for all things technology I decided to test drive it anyway. To my surprise I ended up liking it and now have it as my primary browser (of course I still have IE, Firefox and Opera in case I get bored )

Anyway, I think the dual-rendering engines is great. I like being able to define which rendering engine I want to use on the fly and on a per site basis. It is also refreshing to finally have another browser that I can use to go to the windowsupdate.com site and have it actually work! I also like the multitude of security features I can control on a per site basis (for example disabling ActiveX, javascript, Java, cookies, images, pop-ups and/or VBscript). The passcard and form fill options work quite nicely as well and I like how highly customizable the My Sidebar and all purpose toolbars are.

I have read that there are people out there that have experienced several bugs with Netscape 8 and while I have encountered some minor ones (like some shortcuts keys not working and the back button jumping too far back in my history) I have not had any major crashes or hangs.

I now that some of you have probably sworn off Netscape for various reasons (I know I did after version 7.1), but I really think this version is at least worth a try. If you give it a whirl with a fairly open mind you may just end up liking it as well . Let there be no mistake though, I still think AOL as a company sucks
