| Why Verizon is bad?
So far they offered much more "services" and benefits than cable. They actually stood tall against in the first wave of RIAA assaults. They also provide highly competitive service, cheaper and constantly improving. -- Semper Fi |

| Just in time...
I had Fios installed on 5/17, and dumped my Optimum Online service a week later after 5 years of service.
With all sorts of problems (capping, speeds halved, etc.) happeing in 2005, Fios could not have come at a better time.
Without getting into the specifics of it, the Fios connection is better than my Optimum Online connection in every way. Website stalls, slow page loading, etc. are all a thing of the past.
Lots of rumors about CV this year; sales to Time Warner among the largest unconfirmed one. And from what I can see since I've been a member (Dec 1999 to May 2005), a possible over-selling of their service.
It's nice to see Netpersec give me a true 15/2.
Not really sure what CV will do when enough people hear about Fios being available in their area, and their TV package is offered. |

I don't understand the Optimum Online bashing. Be glad you're not stuck with Time Warner. When I lived in south Brooklyn I had OOL, I loved it. I fought for it. Then I moved to Bay Ridge and had to get Road Runner. I could have gotten DSL too, in fact I only live 150 feet from the CO, but I need cable's speed.
Well we finally got 5mb/s downloads...and that is still half the speed of OOL. But I pay the same 60 dollars a month for Time warner that I did for cablevision (I don't get TV service)
If verizon rolled out FIOS tomorrow, I would throw my cablemodem out the window tomorrow.
Competition is good in broadband. VERY GOOD. -- If at first you don't succeed...bug them till you get what you want. |

| For me, and several friends, we had ZERO problmes with Optimum Online from 1999 thru 2003.
Since then, quite a few problems from speeds to web pages timing out, to email issues, and I wanted out of Optimum Online for the last year, but there was no direct competitive alternative. |

Sure speed sells and competition rocks where as the subject states, where the f*ck is the service??? Sure not in Hudson County or NYC. 2 vital areas. |

Websites timing out could be a result of a DDOS attack or the server handling too much traffic. It's not necessarily the ISP's fault. My wife likes to bash my computer for websites loading slow or not loading at all when it's clearly a server issue and not a client side problem. |

| reply to Phil BK The bashing is from a-holes who run Kazaa and servers all day slowing down the service for others and get pissed cause CV caps them for it. Good, I say. They're bandwidth hogs. It says in the TOS, no servers. End of story.
Time Warner is worst. Slower speeds and more expensive. Even their cable service costs higher. Then people have the never to say CV is a bunch of greedy bastards? They are but Verizon and Time Warner are worst.
FIOS wont be deployed in any place that matters (like NYC) for a long long time. So I really dont know why people are getting so hyped up. FIOS is being rolled out in stupid little towns that no one cares about. When FIOS comes to NYC or Hudson County, then we'll talk. For now, OOL is your best bet. |

@sacoriver.net | Fios!
They can charge me $200 bucks a month for Fios service and I'll pay it.
I want phone/data/tv all on one bill. Especially if it is a higher service then my 8/1mbps GWI DSL service. |
