Oh, how I wish they were doing apartment buildings in DC! I would so love to ring Comcrap and tell them to bugger off. I'm stuck with them cuz I'm on the north side of my building and can't get satellite. Oh, well... [sigh] |

| Sounds exciting!
So far, Verizon has deals with NBC Universal, Discovery, Court TV, A&E, Showtime and the NFL Network.

Too bad they probably won't get past cable franchice agreements where I am. All I see in my future with FIOS TV is lawyers. |

How many HD channels? Despite their public fight with Cablevision, I hope they plan to offer the Voom HD channels...
PS: does anybody know when FIOS will be available in Brooklyn? I mean at the internet service... though these TV channels will be interesting as well if they price it properly. For example how about offering an a la carte programming too? That would be a big deal, compared to TWCNYC's ridiculously overpriced crappy picture quality shitty package bundles... |

Had direcTV since the satellite went live with a whopping five minutes down time. you can't beat the quality or the price! Umm.......Then theres,Chicken SHIT,Verizon who has proven that it can't even run it's own network nor provide services to it's own customers.
heh,the competition is shaking in their boots alright...*cough*cough *cough* GAG! |

| Like Satellite TV!
What they are preparing you for is to be charged for every TV like Satellite TV. IPTV will need a set top box at every television just like satellite, and not only that, you may have to rewire your house with CAT5 to be able to get it everywhere you want.
There are some set tops that can control up to 3 TVs, but I don't think Verizon is looking in that direction. Thus, your $49 per month for basic turns into a $69 if you want it on 3 or 4 TVs.
Also, since everything is basically over a high speed connection, you may only be able to watch 2 TVs in your home with HD since HD takes up about 20M.
As far as apartments go, I can't wait to see what Verizon's play will be on that. That will be a wiring nightmare.
Is the general public willing to do this? |

said by JoshNJ :not necessarily, except for the plain old family cable package, directv prices are even with cable prices here It's really regional. Below are the prices for the two major satellite providers and what Comcast offers. A direct apple to apple comparison can't be made as each package varies slightly from what the competition offers, but you can still draw similarities.
America's Top 60 (~60 Channels+Locals)- $31.99 per month America's Top 60 Plus (~60+RSN Channels+Locals)- $36.99 per month America's Top 120 (~120 Channels+Locals) $42.99 per month America's Top 180 (~180 Channels+Locals)$52.99 per month America's "Everything" Pak (Everything) $86.99 per month Movie channels range between $9 and $14 depending on what combination you purchase them Total Choice (~135 Channels) $41.99 Total Choice Plus (~155 Channels) $45.99 Total Choice Premier (Everything) 93.99 Movie channels range between $7 and $12 depending on what combination you purchase them
Preferred Basic (~80 including) 47.89 Basic Digital (~160 channels) 62.84 Silver (Basic Digital + 1 Movie) 79.99 Gold (Basic Digital + 2 Movie) 90.99 Platinum Digital (Everything) 102.99 -- "What gives them the right to come in and do this?" she said. - Lady complaining that she was getting FIOS in her backyard. |

Their three tier bundle better include:
unlimited local, regional and long distance phone plus basic voicemail, caller ID, call waiting etc.
Basic digital TV (no premiums)
High speed broadband: 5000/2000
for $99 plus taxes and fees. Otherwise, they won't lure me away from RCN. What are the chances?

I care. So you think Copper is better? All Verizon is doing is upgrading to a new pipe which better meets there needs and their customers and instead of only running it halfway they are going all the way home. |

Satellite is all digital and cheap. That is good if that is all you want. I've used Dish Network. But Satellite is not good for data and has no place for VOIP. It cannot even do double play well when both cableco and telco can (or will) provide tripple play services. |
