Hmmm, maybe because of the lawsuits?

The lawsuits always made me wonder how you could NOT sign up for the 911 service when you get Vonage..It was everywhere, never mind everytime you log into the dashboard...
As for the low cost call centers I could see it now...

Thank you for calling 911 Mr. joseph...Have you tried taking your hand off of the gun shot wound..You have you you still bleed...I see I see...I would be more than happy to help you today...When you take your hand off of the gunshot wound what do you get? Lots of blood? Ah yes I will be more than happy to help you today...Please hold...

Address

Let me understand this. I'm a vonage customer for about 3 months now and yes I have gone and configured the 911 feature on my service via the web. It asked me for an address, etc. I'm assuming when I pick up my phone and dial 911 that it will route the call to my local dispatch center vs. their outsourced center correct?

If the above is true, why can't vonage automatically configure these for all clients, meaning they have my name, address, city, state, etc, so why can't they configure this for me instead of asking the end user to do it. Don't get me wrong, it took me 20 seconds to do it, but some people, well you know.

I understand that people can take this terminal all over the country/world. If they decided to take it to another location and then decide to call 911, well too bad. But for their main address Vonage should be able to configure this for them?

Are you serious fantom? Have you not been keeping up with the E911 news lately?
Again, sue Vonage for someone's laziness is unwillingness to enter their address into 911 system...It practically hits you over the head each time...
If you are too stupid, lazy, etc to do it, then Mother Nature has an answer for that...It's called Natural Selection...

Maybe they should require 911 setup even before you can make a call. When you first try to make a call, you would have to set up your 911 info. If you were an ignorant fool and just hung up it would just keep on asking for 911 info every time you would make a call.

1.Order VoIP
2.Call 911 without setting it up
3.Profit!

Yea, I have been following it, and until today I felt exactly the same way you did.

But unless I am reading this wrong they have had the ability all along to do it for the customer.....it seems lame to me that they did not do so.

What about the people who don't want/need VOIP 911 service? I've got 911 on my cell which is always on me. I did activate my Vonage 911, it was the first thing I did when I signed up but to punish those who don't want/need it to make up for the stupidity of others is ignorant in itself.

What if someone shoots you and takes your cell in hopes that you can't call 911? What then?

You can use the back up 911 service...
1) raise your hand to your mouth
2) curl your hand into a cone shape
3) place one end of the cone to your mouth
4) yell HELP in the loudest voice possible
5) repeat step 4 until help arrives....

What about a friend visiting your house who doesn't know that you're using VOIP and tries calling 911?

Why would you not set it up? What purpose, other than just being stubborn, does not setting it up serve?

Lawsuits...god bless the US for being so sue happy...

I am stubborn/dumb/ignorant/lazy/unwilling/numb/illeterate/
anything else that aplies that if I fail to heed the NUMEROUS warnings, etc to sign up for the 911 service, then I deserve to make millions and sue Vonage...

Again, it's called Natural Selection where only the smart survive...and if you are not smart enough to not sign up for it, then you get what you deserve...if something happens and you die because of any of the above reason or whatever moronic reason you have for not signing up, then your death will only increase the global IQ exponentially.

Good riddance...sorry about the rant but it just blows my mind...

Re: Low cost call centers in India

Ok. Can we at least be realistic here? I mean, come on. Everyone knows the dialog isn't going to be like that.

A much more realistic dialog would be something like:
[music]Thank you for calling Vonage 24-hour Emergency Response Center. In order to serve you better, this call may be monitored or recorded to ensure customer satisfaction. Your input is valuable to us. If you have any comments on the service you called today, please press *1 at any time during this message to answer a customer feedback survey. Your approximate wait time is[pause]45[pause]minutes[pause][more music]
