| fanboys??? well yeah, that much is obvious. Nobody here really wants another slashed up forum. consider that some folks aren't merely 'fanboys' of whatever's new. consider that some of them might actually know what they're talking about, for a (few?) reasons. Why not bash on this? Hasn't nearly everyone here dealt w/one form or another of this most wretched spyware?
Maybe there are other potential (good???) uses for this software that most haven't yet fathomed. This seems likely a real possiblity since MS doesn't need to re-invent the wheel to mess w/people if they so choose. It also seems very real that such software does have sinister uses... hence the 'fanboys' bashing.
By the way... Firefox is a simpler netsape. If you were on the net when graphical browsing first hit, you may remember that Netscape was good, simple software. Many are still bitter that IE is NOT a standalone, simple, piece of software. Rather it IS integrated into the OS when there is barely any justification for this. Some people are "FANS" of what is simple, effective, and leaves them alone!

1 edit | Re: fanboys??? said by amungus : consider that some of them might actually know what they're talking about, for a (few?) reasons. The problem is people making hot-headed unlevel assumptions.. which is what fanboys do. They are quick to assume something, like these:
"they're gonna put pop-ups in winblows it sux0rs!11!!!11" "omg time to switch to Linux omg I have no basis for this decision!1!!!111" "omg they are teh ev1l empire gonna inject adware into winblows !1!!111111"
Absolutely no thought processes going on, just like an output line in an infinite for loop. So unless they actually work for Microsoft and are willing to break their NDA contract to tell us exactly what MS's (notice how I didn't stoop low to call them names by using a dollar sign) intentions are or until a new article comes out stating what will happen, they should probably keep their bashing mouths shut.
For one, Windows is not the only product Microsoft maintains. Geezus people!
I also see alot of Firefox posts. Another clue as to how many people read TFA! -- "If you like linux then use it otherwise stop preaching about linux we all already know about it and if we like it we'll use it. If you keep pestering people you look like those annoying Jehovah's witnesses... [..] with nothing better to do."

@mdsg-pacwest.co | Giant AS not so free If Microsoft does buy Claria, it suggests a motive for their acquisition of Giant anti-spyware last year; before you enter the adware field, co-opt the best defense against it.
