Comments on news posted 2005-07-25 18:33:47: More upstream Bandwidth; aside from price-cuts, it's one of the top demands of our readers. PC World waxes poetic about the aspect of your connection most ISP marketing departments just don't talk much about (256kbps just isn't sexy). ..

Re: Article

the article writer fails to mention, or point out that providers are STILL dragging their feet. sure they are making increases, but they are VERY small ones, and not even close to being on par with that of download speeds.

Yes, More Upload

I have been complaining about this every time there has been an increase in speed. I have gone through 2 download speed increases since I have started using Time Warner's network, and not one of those times included an increase in upload speed.

Re: Article

Yeah, and you have to wonder if the RIAA and MPAA are part of the reason. They have to be pushing to keep upload speeds down to try and keep piracy down. I don't get why cable companies will offer 10 megabit down but stick us with crappy 768 upload speeds. It drives me nuts!

I have heard that it is a way to force businesses to pay a hefty price for their symmetric services, IE a T-1. Who would pay for a T-1 line if you could get a 5/5 Meg cable line? Actually, that is a can of worms Verizon is opening with their FIOS...

Re: Yes, More Upload

I have the 5/2 FIOS package from verizon and I would love to have 1 more Mb for upload. 3Mbps would really be the sweet spot for me. It would allow me to run some services on my connection without any degradation (because of multiple users).

I won't complain though.

Are there things that Verizon doesn't want you to do on your line like host servers?

You get what you pay for...Bell Sympatico offers 4 levels of DSL service, where uploads range from 96kbps upto 800kbps, with a price increase with each tier. So you pay for what you get. makes sense to me.

Some of us would kill for 2 Mbps up. Majority of us cannot get DSL let alone FIOS.

Servers are not allowed according to the FIOS TOS, but people are still running them on non-standard ports.

I have seen the price for that tier too. That is a lot of money to spend on a residential connection.

a T-1 is dedicated bandwidth. FIOS is not along with cable or dsl

Re: Yes, More Upload

I just posted in another forum about the fact that my cable DL speed over 4 years has increased from 1.5Mb to 6.0Mb, but my UL speed has only moved from 256k to 384k in that same amount of time. Only a 32k per year increase. Thats ridiculous, and it is purely about the cable ISP's $$greed$$.

Forgot to mention I checked cable TV service Verizon is offering and it is sweeeeet. Tell your law makers that you welcome Verizon FIOS Cable TV and High Speed Broad Band so Verizon can come to every body faster than Cable Companies would like. Cable Companies are fighting hard to Keep verizon away from this business. Even in my area Virginia (North) Verizon win after a bloody battle with Cable Companies. Areas you can not get FIOS or DSL is due to cable companies bribing law makers and making it close to impossible for competition to get into this business and kick their behinds.

Re: Article

T-1 is designed for business. Say your T-1 goes out you get a credit on your account no questions ask(no csr you need). If your line does go out its only out for like a few mins. at the most i have ever heard of. I know of a few people with T-1 lines they love them. When they say 1.5 megs you get 1.5 where cable would be a posted 5 megs you would really get 3.5 depends on your node load and head end load. I dont care of the telco's but this is one strong line that they do have. Soon T-3 and t-5 will come down in price now since fois is now in the market.

Cable companies are like they dont care, if you are a business or a house we will get to you when we want.

Re: Article

t 5 ?

Did I miss a new level of service there ? I though oc are the next step up from a t-3 / ds-3.

Btw T1 prices are only 250 a month now and falling fast. t1 with an sla can be had for $250 but if you turn down the sla they can go as cheap as $99.
