Comments on news posted 2005-07-27 16:22:45: As we've mentioned, what the media insists on calling a "broadband price war" is actually a rather one sided affair, with DSL providers offering introductory deals under $20, while cable raises speeds (and prices). ..

Pay for a BMW, get a Hyundai

Funny, maybe I should Call Brian Roberts and ask why I paid BMW prices for his Hyundai product. If he thinks that Cable could even compare to BWM, well he's wrong. I'll Wait Till UTOPIA (10mbps up AND DOWN) 39.99 month.. That's BMW!!!!

BMW

I've had Comcast for a few months now. I gave up Bellsouth because surfing with Bellsouth was like driving an old beat up datsun. With Comcast, it's like driving a brand new Lexus LS400. The cost is the same (I have Comcast Cable TV) and the speeds are significantly faster, and they're getting even faster than that very soon.

I just did a trade-in...

I've had both:
Cable is like driving a BMW on the freeway. The potential for high speed is there unless it's rush hour.
DSL is like driving a Hyundai on a country road. You can't go quite as fast, but the road ahead is wide open.
I just traded my Hyundai in on a Ferrari(FIOS).

Comcrap is about right

in the past month and half I have 13 days where I had usable service (meaning I have had a connection and could actually do more than pull 1 webpage at a time) the rest of the time I have had either no connection ( 15 days solid) or so frelling slow I can't do much besides pull email (which times out half the time) or use my IM programs (11 days and counting)
and the Customer Service, well I don't think they have any really, on a rare occasion I get a cheerful english speaking person when I call there damn tech line, and when they can't fix it, it takes anywhere from a week to 10 days to get a tech out to look at it, and when the tech does show up, rarely is it someone who seems to know what they are doing and really seems to want to help.
So crappy service, crappy support, and I am paying 52 freakin dollars a month for this crap. :/

and did I mention that my service is supposed to be something like 400/384 since the last outage I have been seeing 2500+ down 4 - 40 Kbps up :|

I even time out trying to get the spell check to run on this site :|

I sofa king hate comcast right now it is not funny

Total BS

This 6mb crap is pure useless hype when it is paired up with a sub 1mb upload. You can only receive information as fast as you can ask for it. 512k/128k, back in the day, was a 4:1 ratio. It was tolerable. This 16:1 crap is useless, and only getting worse. The DSL companies have a chance to capitalize on this. 1.5mb/1mb for $50 or 6mb/384k, for the same? I'll take the first, thanks.

Odd...

My "hyundai" doesn't breakdown as often as the "BMW". I don't get sent letters from BMW saying I've used the car I paid for too much. Hyundai hasn't put limits on the amount of letters I keep in my glove compartment.

And my Hyundai didn't stop running during Hurricane Charley, unlike all my neighbor BMW owners, whos "cars" were in the "shop" for months...

What he meant!

Telco techs can afford BMW's. Comcast techs can afford hyundai's. I think that's what he meant!

hyundai vs toyota

FYI hyundai beat all the non luxury car manufacturers in intial quality according to JD Power and Associate rating few weeks back.

they had the fewest repair.

#1 was porsche, #2 lexus, #3 hyundai, #4 toyota.

BMW was below average at 141 (average # of problems per 100 vehicles = 124).

I got hyundai tucson in nov 2005.
compared to Toyota RAV. it was better deal than toyota by far and less expensive. got power windows, door locks, sunroof, leather seats, front heated seats, subwoofer, 6 speakers, tinted windows in back, etc for $19997 (includes TTL). toyota can't match that or warranty. it would have costed $2000 more for same features.

it's as quiet and smooth as toyota. only difference is that hyundai has 10 yr warranty (transmission and engine), 5yr warranty (bumper to bumper), and 5 yr roadside assistance (no car manufacturer can beat this quaranteed). and they the 5th biggest car manufacturer worldwide now. they beat nissan
they are just behind honda.

#1 GM, #2 toyota, #3 ford, #4 honda, #5 hyundai.

my friend got BMW X3 in aug '05. I was disappointed with BMW quality. it's noisy, rough, not smooth. bmw, audio, and mercedes are offering 4 yrs maintenance for free because they are losing market share to lexus. they are not able to offer same quality as lexus for same price.

my point is it all comes down to quality price and value.

same thing applies to whether to get DSL vs Cable.

I used to have Roadrunner cable ($30 for 6 months promotion) switched back to SBC DSL w/ 1 year contract($20 for dsl 3.0mbps speed- orderd on phone because I didn't have landline which is required to order online)

Cable providers are not going to reduce their prices for awhile because they don't have competition from other cable providers.

if you don't want contract then go for cable otherwise dsl is better deal.
