Comments on news posted 2005-08-04 15:39:01: Over the last few months, upgrading your Zone Alarm software firewall has been a lot like playing Russian Roulette. That trend continues with the release of version 6.0, which isn't getting a warm welcome in the Zone Labs forums. ..

Huh?

Didn't this news-post just say there wasn't exactly a warm welcome? If so, what's with the quote that comes right after? It's a total rave.

Whatever.

Re: Huh?

It continues if you care to click on the link to the ZA forum:

quote:
I got the new version available message and, silly me, went ahead and downloaded and installed it. Just goes to show NO ONE can be trusted, even a company that gets regular infusions of cash from me to keep their product up to date.

As soon as I installed it, it went to work. It blocked each and every program on my PC from accessing the net. It was so diligent I couldn't even access Zone Labs! Excellent work, people.

Then it prevented me from logging on to the PC.

Then it stopped Windows from even completely starting.

After booting to "last known good configuration", I was able to uninstall Zone Alarm...though it still blocked access to the "why are you uninstalling me?" user survey!

Once it was uninstalled, I had to try three times to install a previous version of Zone Alarm Pro...seems the "run" process had been corrupted somehow too.

Finally I got back to 5.5.094. I now have a working computer again.

I think I'll stick with this version, until the Zone Alarm people stop releasing alpha software on their customers.

BTW, is it just me, or is there a conspicuous lack of posts on this topic from anyone actually part of the company?

Back to 5.5

Well, after a few days of ZAP6 I decided to switch back to 5.5. The sporadic BSODs at WinXP boot, the nagging pop-up warnings of keystroke theft, and the slight but definite sluggishness of the whole machine finally convinced me to rollback to a devil I know. I'll try the next patched release of ZAP6 but for now I don't need the headaches.

Ugh

ZA Pro 6 SS crashed my box. Lost my LAN connection, email in outlook 2003 wouldnt connect to inbound mail server, crashed google desktop search, and my ftp server serv-u wouldnt function...

Back to 5.5 version, will I never learn. Why ZL released this disaster to the public is beyond me. We are beta testing sheep if you ask me, no thanks.
