shouldn't google be investing in bittorrent? bandwidth may be free, and harddisks may be cheap, but other people's bandwidth and harddisks are even cheaper... |

im not too big of a fan of it but its nice to see the industry realize that its not the gun thats killing but the person with that pulled the trigger who did the illegal act. basicly P2P is slowly getting the proper respect that it as a tool has legal uses too. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

So, what your saying is: we'll let you download all the shizat you want but you have to look at the General Motors, Ford, and Chrystler, and Geico commercials too!!?!?!?!??
Bahahahah... don't make me laugh. That's funnier than $65 a barrel of oil at a marine recruiting station. Yes, I'm that cynical. |

There is too much exposure to liability. Unless that is mitigated (which it won't be) there is no hope for funding, or respect for that matter, from the people that have the money.

| BitTorrent is not a network
Om Malik errs in reffering to BitTorrent as "a network". Each shared file, or torrent, is a separate virtual network of its own. Nothing links them to one another. Rather, BitTorrent is a protocol, a servlet (combined client/server), and a system.
One could argue that the new search capability on bittorrent.com changes this, but it's not an essential part of the system.
As I understand it, it's also wrong to imply that BitTorrent started as a tool for illegal trading; I've read that it was originally conceived to share Linux ISOs. In any case, legitimate use has flourished alongside shadier trading from the beginning; it's not a new development. |

| Warcraft
Blizzard is using the bittorrent protocol in there "Blizzard Downloader". Everytime a patch is released for World of Warcraft the downloader kicks in, connects to a torrent tracker, and starts connecting to other peers currently downloading the patch.
When World of Warcraft originially came out Blizzard was a victim of their own success. Using the bittorrent protocol shifted a lot of the bandwidth load from blizzard to individual users. |
