don't be so cynical - 802.11 took what, 5 years to become stable? Recall that it first started out as frequency hopping (Proxim RangLAN was perhaps the first). Then DSSS caught on with Orinoco then later Aironet, and 11b. Then some time went by for WiFi to be formed and effective, then for China, Inc. to make it cheap.
WiMax, IMHO, will become the soltuion for the need for vendor-independent point to point links.
I can't see WiMAX defeating migration from 11g to 11n in the consumer world. If Intel thinks they can get WiMax in everyone's home theater setup, rather than 11n, I think they're mistaken. Just inertia will make 11n succeed, and some extent of backwards compatibility with 11b/g/i.
This is my opinion. I never make mistakes; I thought I made one once but I was wrong. |

WiMax is "HypeMax". Don't expect it to be the broadband cure all, because it wont be. -- »www.wavecrazy.net Join WISPA today! »www.wispa.org/ |
