| Hey, I'm already there.... Like wide neckties, everything old is new again....
I've got a Moto V60 that shows "CINGULAR" on the main screen when you open it, but shows "AT&T Wireless" on the outside screen when the phone is open. (This is a leftover from the change TO Cingular, not quick work changing FROM it.)
I'll eagerly be anticipating the switch to "Cellular ONE"!

| No name change. The article was in error. Looks like there will be no name change after all. Here's an update from RCR News:
»rcrnews.com/news.cms?newsId=24896
It seems that there will be an AT&T MVNO that will run over Cingular's network, but Cingular will not be changing its name.

| There will be no name change. I'm not sure why my last post didn't show up, so I'll try again. There will be no name change. The original article was in error. What will happen is that there will be an AT&T MVNO that will run over Cingular's network. However, Cingular will keep its name.
Here's the RCR News article.

| interesting according to an article over at www.rcrnews.com, it seems that Cingular will remain, however SBC will market AT&T Wireless Services in some markets using the Cingular network. So they are going to resell their own network under AT&T and compete with themselves? | |

| So... So does this mean that instead of their being Cingular, their will be AT&T? LOL, I cant wait for my friends to say, I dont have T-Mobile, I have AT&T. It isnt that I dont like AT&T, as they have wired my building with Fiber, it is that it sounds so OLD!! -- Being Wise Is Not About Being Smart, Its About Making The Correct Choices That Will Affect One's Future.Making The Right Choice, Doesn't Always Mean, Its The Right One. | |

| death to cingular & at&t I got some problem with billing under AT&T. Nobody seems to know what's going on there. I had to keep calling every month to correct the billing issues. System busy is common. Guess I'm no longer with them. With Cingular, it's shitty reception here. Only works in the freeway.
Let Verizon reign supreme!! Never had any problem with VZW, billing nor reception wise, it works great!

| They are keeping Cingular »www.engadget.com/entry/1234000650069010/
"Update: Cingular fans, we have good news as reported by RCR, apparently Cingular spokesman Clay Owen said they are continuing with the strong Cingular brand that we have spent the past five years building and promoting. In other words, it looks like USA Todays report was predicated on some miscommunicated information SBC is changing its name to AT&T, yes, and they plan on resurrecting AT&T branded wireless service, yes, but apparently as something more akin to an MVNO leasing Cingulars network capacity. So if were to believe RCR on this, then Cingular stays, AT&T wireless is back as an MVNO in select markets, and all is well. Well keep you posted
[Thanks, Vic.]" | |

| Coming full circle I continuously have had an AT&T cellular service 1997. Upgrading from analog to PCS then to GSM, they always have had the best coverage at the best price in my area.
Since the Cingular acquisition, nothing has changed for me. However if I want to take advantage of the Cingular FastForward and Roll Over minutes features, I have to give up the AT&T plan, and go with a Cingular plan which has a higher overall cost for the same level of service.
Hopefully the return of AT&T will solve this gripe. Doubt it, but we all have our fantasies!!

| This is outrageous... You know, I was with ATTWS up until November of 2004.
At that point, the service here in Atlanta turned to complete garbage (dropped calls, not receiving calls, perfect phone just going GONZO, the list truly defies comprehension), I switched my account over to Cingular and got a new phone out of TOTAL DESPERATION.
For some time (a few weeks) service was flawless, and I felt confident I'd made the right decision. But now, especially in the last 7-8 months, service has simply degraded to a point nearly as bad as a year ago.
If the only thing truly changing as a result of THIS switch is the name, and there'll be little or no change in service, then F them all in the A... Screw AT&T (regardless of who's behind the scenes), and screw Cingular (ditto).
I'm tired of it, and I'm jumping ship. Unlocked phone and some new random carrier... here I come!

| Verizon is kicking Cingular's A*** Verizon justs keeps chugging along. Hate to say, but Nextel was the best till Sprint bought it. I'll take Alltel anyday.
The name change is basically like a girl trying to lose a bad reputation for a good one.
I will bet BellSouth is really ticked on the name change, but, as only a 40% holder, they have NO say.
If Cingular would build freaking towers like Alltel and Verizon does, they could compete. Cingular now has the highest drop rate in the biz. Verizon and Alltel are picking them up left and right.
T-Mobile, if they get their tower act together, will cream Cingular/ATT.
Bell Mobility >>> Cingular Merger with SBC >>> Bought ATT Wireless for $26 billion >>> SBC bought ATT for $18-20 billion >>> SBC changes name to ATT >>> SBC now ATT changes Cingular back to ATT Wireless.
Why? Customers are dropping (churn) at 3% to Verizon's 1%.
Verizon is expected to back to #1 next year.
