Not a good thing.

State owned telcos (ie. Brazil) are always against the consumers interests.

This is why Capitalism is critical for Liberty.

The article gets it right...

Fighting VoIP calls is a lost cause.

I agree Joshua, eventually all regulation to VoIP will be lifted because consumers use it more than copper lines.

I Wonder if this Applies to Inconnecthere?

I wonder whether this applies to iconnecthere, an Israeli VOIP company extensively marketed on a worldwide basis.

Ops, Brazilian telcos are NOT state owned!!!

They've been privatized many years ago...

wonder if its for security reasons

I would think they have an interest in being able to monitor communications to a degree

The last time the government tried to regulate Internet content via the CDA it got laughed out of court. Lobbying on the part of telegraph companies is going to become a non-issue either as they lose more and more money to VoIP.

Israel Sucks!

Israel is not a democracy. This is just one example of it. Anyone who calls them a democracy is a fool. Israel has a long history of supporting terrorism in the name of Jewish Zionism and even having racist laws (EVEN TODAY) where non-Jews can't marry Jews, etc.

A real democracy. LMFAO.
This comes as no surprise!

 Pretty dumb

All they can do I think, is block inbound VOIP calls. IE Calls which route to their own POTS system. Outbound calls terminating in another Country's POTS system can't be regulated, unless they block all VOIP traffic.

So this is going to save them what? Half the missed revenue? What's it going to cost the ISPs to implement the ban? Pretty dumb!

Since when has racial equality or government support of activities ever been a prerequisite to democracy.

May not be an Economic thing...

all licensed ISPs in Israel begin blocking Voice Over IP (VoIP) communications that terminate in the (POTS) telecommunications network oversees.
There aren't many Israel-friendly countries in Europe, Asia, or Africa. [Disclaimer: I'm not going to comment on why that is or if it is undeserved/deserved.] So Israel isn't going to like that a large portion of their civilian communication system is in the hands of a foreign communications company, which can be manipulated by a foreign government.

Just a thought.

Always ?

And what then if there is only one phone company and its a private venture? Not a lot of stuff going for the consumer there either.

Capitalism is okay, but only if there is competition.

Looks like a Security thing to me

Far more likely to be a security thing to help stop phonecalls that the gov't can't tap.

Re: Israel Sucks!

Your remark clearly shows how clue-LESS you are. The reason for the things you mention are all related to the fact that State and Religion are not separated. The religious party's in the government apply pressure on the government for certain things and that's why Democracy looses it's strong hold in Israel. Jew's are not allowed to marry Non-Jews because Marriages are controlled by the Religious Movements.

Know what you're talking about before squeezing the trigger.

*Edit*
Supporting Terrorism?.....Dude you're delusional, Israel has been fighting terror longest than any other country in the world, and as soon as Terror becomes a problem for the UK or US they turn to the Israeli's for consultation....You make a good point about Israel Supporting Terror now don't you

very stupid move

Its not a "security" thing,
Purely economics and political cronyism

In my opinion the public will not stand for this

@com.br

well

i really don't agree with this sh*t... and if it happens here, it would cost me some hundred bucks a year... butm, just for you all know, here in Brasil, all the telecoms offers VoIP services, and in fact, they are having some big troubles in justice cause they don't respect their costumers....
