Tivo like recording options on a PC you say....haven't we had that for quite some time now?
Being able to transfer the recordings to your Tivo box would be a nice feature though.

You can transfer MPeg2 recordings to TiVo BTW.
This actually looks like a joint venture between Intel and TiVo.

| What's the advantage?
Where's the advantage of this over a SageTV, BeyondTV, MythTV, or GBPVR setup with one of the small form factor computers? Or even over Windows MCE? I've been recording, pausing, rewinding, etc live tv for about 2 years and it wasn't particularly tough when I set up my system. I'm hooked to my TV via Svideo, but component and even DVI have been available for a while.
What's the digital *restrictions* management involved? How are they going to make downloading from the internet legal? What is the cost to be? My present PVR had some up front costs, but other than electricity no maintenance costs (SageTV provides continued TV listings as part of the initial sale of the program). |

Does AOL have their own call centers where they instruct employees to lose cancellation requests and do anything that is possible to get a user to not cancel? Just pick up a fired employee and wouldn't that be all the proof needed to take them down hard? |

You have listed all software solutions. Intel has noticed that since the software is out there (and seems to be popular), there needs somebody to take charge of hardware compatibility. For example, hardware compatibility has always plagued MCE -- in fact Microsoft required that only specific OEMs could purchase and sell MCE solutions because of the hardware compatibility issue. Intel wants to be able to allow consumers to purchase ViiV compatible video cards, along with ViiV certified platforms (P4, Centrino), to be able to create their own non-OEM Media Center solutions. |

Ditto, have had a ati all-in-wonder 9600 pro for pvr and just picked up a TV wonder pro for $20 after rebates so now have PIP. Get free tv guide and no subscription costs. WIFI systems exist to port from computer to living room but I'm waiting for the technology to mature a bit more(and price drop). |

If it's anything like Centrino, it'll be wildly popular. I bet if you surveyed the general population, an overwhelming majority will tell you that that Intel invented "wireless Internet." |
