Not bad at all

This means they've only spent $32,000 per customer.

"Introductory offer?"

As far I know, Verizon's $15/month DSL service isn't an "introductory price." That's the monthly price for 768/128 service with a one-year contract.

Verizon Bashers

100,000 customers billing per month is roughly $5 -15 Million dollars a month in revenues, depending on services ordered. You can see why investors are worried, though they are not necessarily right. This does not make them irrational, just cautious.

Re: "Introductory offer?"

Yes, it is only the 768/128 plan. You can see their pricing packages here.

Right... that's the package I currently have. My point is that it isn't "introductory" pricing, i.e. after a few months at $14.95/month, the price doesn't increase.

Edit: Karl corrected the OP.

DSL sales also keep their POTS customers too

A nice bonus for Verizon is that since they don't sell naked DSL, all those new DSL users keep customers locked into Verizon's phone service as well. And I suspect that they may then be able to sell many of those customers on bundles of DSL, long Distance, & wireless as well.

The Fios numbers of $3.2 billion for 100,000 customer so far(maybe spending approx $100/mo) isn't great. That is $32,000 per customer attained. While the cost per customer will get better as they get more customers(covering more of the initial startup costs), they better hope a lot more people sign up soon or the board will pull the plug on their Fios plans.

I agree, if only I could get this without having a phone. I use my home phone about 300 min a month and we also have cell phones with many minutes. I would love to have this plus sunrocket.

Exactly what I was talking about. A Verizon Basher. You have no idea of what you are talking about. You are passing off your bogus opinion as fact. Verizon does offer Dry Loop and UNEP (Verizon DSL different Phone provider) DSL which can be order through over the phone.

 Still in DSL Hell...

Really nice for those that are in range. But for those of us that have had no chance in the past, still will never have a chance and it will be years before we get FIOS if at all.

Really??
Well that isn't what their web site says: »www22.verizon.com/ForHomeDSL/cha···ault.asp
Offer by Verizon Online for all new DSL customers. A $19.95 shipping and activation charge will apply to each DSL order. An additional monthly Supplier FUSF recovery charge will be added to your monthly bill. Early termination fee of $79 applies to one year plans. Verizon residential local service is required.

Easy choice to make!

Let's see AO-hell for $23.95 slow dialup, or 768K DSL for $14.95???

It's not that high. $32,000 is not "per" customer but rather for the network. Initial network upgrades are expensive, as they add more customers they won't need to keep adding as much expensive equipment.

How stupid of you to say "if at all." All copper will be upgraded to fiber eventually. Think : MORE MONEY FOR VERIZON, LESS MAINTENANCE. FIOS WILL BE A BENEFIT FOR EVERYONE! CUSTOMER AND VERIZON! Don't forget FIOS has NO distance limits, they will wire EVERYONE, you just can't snap your fingers and expect to get FIOS. I live 15 miles from NYC and don't have FIOS, and 99% of NYC doesn't have FIOS yet either maybe even 100%.

THIS explains why install was SO PAINFUL

Thanks very much for the initial news post!

Now I can understand why clients' Verizon DSL service dates got moved, delayed, then screwed up and took forever to get, FINALLY, squared away!!!

Boat loads of demand!!!

TY!!!

I agree. And I believe I coverd that with this statement in my original post:
