| Rural "utilities" Im stuck with 56k. My biggest complaint is always on connectivity. I would love to have more speed, but really just the ability to stay online (and actually connecting above 28k) would do it for me.
I would also like to point out that most rural folk do not have city water. We had to pay for the well, pump, lines, septic tank. Just because something is a utility does not gurantee its availability for everyone. People seem to think that by branding broadband a "utility" it will somehow magically appear for all. The problem with not forcing the hand of the phone/cable companies to wire rural areas (which are certainly no great investment) is they will NEVER do it if not prodded in some way. I dont want or expect a free ride, but short of the govt forcing verizon to wire our street we will never see any form of broadband.

No wonder the cable and phone companies don't want muni fiber involved. They want to corner the market.
