1 edit | gee, ain't duopoly competition great!
[sarcasm] wow, with these behemoths slugging it out (in the press, anyway), I can just feel those lower prices and higher speeds anytime now. [/sarcasm]
Just think of what real competition would be like!
From one of the articles:
"Seidenberg says the market--not the government--needs to decide who will help subsidize the billions of dollars telcos like Verizon (nyse: VZ - news - people ) are spending to bury fiber-optic pipe across the U.S."
Sounds like the good 'ole telco mindset to me: we're not building anything unless you guarantee we make a profit. Note the use of the word "subsidize" - that's how the existing networks got built, by government mandating that customers subsidize the investment thru guaranteed profit. Now they want the same deal with fiber; it's worse this time , however, because the bells are using fiber to REPLACE their copper. What they should be doing is turning the legacy copper over to the government (or to the customers that subsidized it) for any company that wants to use it. If they did that though, there would be some actual competition and they certainly don't want that.
I don't think the bells ever understood what the word "competition" means. |

How come Verizon has all this money to spend in FIOS and the other local Telcos don't even have plans to deploy? Sux if you are not on a Verizon serviced area. |

| I dont always agree with Seidenberg but now I do!
This time I am in complete agreement with Seidenberg!
The FREE MARKET will determine who is BEST. As LONG AS all the carriers play by the rules but in NY State when Spitzer wins for Governor, come 2007 they will be required to do such in NY State
So as we take everything into context, I agree with Seidenberg here.
Seidenberg needs to get FIOS TO MY MDU in Queens in NYC! |

| Hopefully half the ISP's drop!
ISP have been charging way to much for service that you can only use this way or that way. They have been overselling their capabilities and reaping huge profits.
The minute someone tries to use the capabilities promised or even half of what is promised. They are kicked from the network.
Sorry but no tears from this internet subscriber. All ISP's have been raping America long enough. Time for a change! -- time nor tide wait for no man... |

| Let's translate..
Lie #1 : "We have huge issues surrounding how we build backbone facilities and access to the broadband world, and I think Google as well as us and others need to let the markets settle that," he said.
Translation : Oh shit, my dumbass VP opened his mouth, spilled our secret plans to the press before we've paid off enough politicians. We'll need to backpedal cause we're about to be bitchslapped by the government.
Lie #2 : "Telcos like Verizon and AT&T counter that because their networks are just that--their networks--they should be allowed to charge fees for faster access to partner sites."
Translation : Well, sure, we built the networks with guaranteed profits over the last 50 years. And yes, the taxpayers subsidized the buildout at a HUGE cost (very expensive long distance, free access to land, guaranteed profits). Now someone else is making money off it, and WE DEMAND that we get our cut. Hey, the mob does it all the time, why do they get all the special breaks?
Lie #3: "Opponents say that government regulation is overkill and that a free market will help speed up network development"
Translation : Waaaaaah, Waaaaaaaaah.. We don't think anyone should be able to build except us, and we'll sue anyone who tries to. Waaaaah, waaaaaah.. The nasty cable companies have more subscribers... waaaaaah, waaaaaah. We'll fire everyone if you don't give us what we want, like PA did when we SWORE we'd have fiber to the entire state by 2004. Waaaaaaah, waaaaaaaah.. -- Sure the internet has lots of porn and piracy, but I'm sure there's a downside to it. |
