| What is that a picture of?
Is that a picture of an actual multi dwelling ONT?
It looks something more like a cross between an IV machine from the local hospital, the air powered tools that hang from a dentist's chair arm tray, and a large plastic case for some 70's Star Wars action figures..... |

Hopefully this means us city residents are next! I would actually consider switching from TWC to Verizon if they brought FIOS here. I would not switch for their crappy DSL service however. Bring on the fiber! -- Now THATS superfluous!! |

Verizon needs to bring more fiber to the Oregon area as well. Until they do, I'll be right here patiently waiting |

..They'd admit that they're going to be offering FIOS in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh in the near future. I go to work every day and have to go thru 4 or 5 work areas in my 5 mile dive to work, all verizon or their contractors...none of em willing to talk. -- Asking those who disagree with you to find support of your arguements is like asking an assailant if you can borrow his gun. |

| High density apartments/condos good for Verizon
If Verizon has figured out how to wire apartment/condo buildings and can convince the building owners to OK it, they can reach a lot of customers very quickly. And that can help them get a return sooner on their Fios rollout. -- -- Join Red Room Forum My Web Page Conrail Photo Album |

I agree with the first poster - interesting picture.
As far as fiber: I'll just have to be happy with high fiber foods. |

I appologize for the poor quality of the picture; while I have a scanner, it's not hooked up at the moment. So, I used the only thing I had so I could share the information.
I don't care about the spelling mistakes or the poor gramer, frankly, I don't give a hoot about it.
None the less, the pic is legit. Got another flyer yesterday saying they would be installing the gear today and would we be kind enough to leave our closets open.
The contractor says they think they should have all the "closets" wired in the next couple of weeks. Then we'll have to wait for Vz to hook up the fiber..... drat --

When they talk about MDUs, they are talking about nice suburban units that were built in the last few decades. The NY metro area is just not quite so "neat", and you have much flakier property owners that could really give two sh*ts about whether there's FiOS or not. Even out here in NJ I've been looking at the building I'm in and I'd be truly shocked if they could run fiber into each apartment for any sort of reasonable cost.
I'll get excited when I hear about the first Brooklyn deployment in an old brownstone. -- Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity |

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the poor spelling.
To me, it's unprofessional and unless it's printed by a third-party, I won't purchase from that company in most cases. Sounds stupid, but if you can't get the basics of a letter correct, then I can only imagine what else you can't get right! |

HEMIDART68 started a thread a while ago about how his apartment was set up with FIOS. Is the problem that verizon doesn't want to install an ONT at every unit? |

The Board of Directors in the co-op that I live in are a bunch of old-school dinosaurs who try to keep any amount of consruction to a minimum. I know for a fact that they are going to start kicking and screaming when Verizon comes to them with a proposal to upgrade the wiring to fiber. On the other hand, hopefully they can use the wire ducts that Cablevision installed in the hallways to run their fiber. They recently installed a DirecTV dish on our roof and are using the same ducts to run coax to the apartments of those who want it. Hopefully they can use it for fiber cables as well when Verizon starts wiring up my neighborhood. -- Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies... | reply to sporkme Old buildings may be a deployment problem in New York, but I think a more likely problem will be people trying to get the government to force Verizon to deploy in places they don't want to deploy yet. That will drive Verizon away for sure. Nothing like a misplaced sense of entitlement to ruin things for other people. |

Is this going to be fiber straight to the apartment or to some basement in the building. If it is to the basement then what kind of bottleneck does the wiring from the basement create. |
